💕 Dexter is an 8.5-year-old Pomeranian cross who is looking for a new home again after almost a month in an adoptive home. Sadly, despite genuine effort from everyone involved, it became clear that the match wasn’t right. Main reason: food guarding and so confrontation with another older dog. Dexter now urgently needs a foster-to-adopt or forever home with people who can manage wise to avoid food guarding, understand small companion breeds and are willing to offer structure, patience and continued guidance.
Dexter is a deeply bonded, intelligent little companion. He forms strong attachments to his people and thrives when he feels secure and understood. Don't be fooled by his age: he is very active and still believes he is a puppy.

💔 Background
Dexter originally came into rescue due to his owner’s declining health. After being adopted, it became apparent that his needs were more complex than expected, particularly around training consistency and food boundaries alongside another dog in the home. The family made the decision to return him so he can find a better-matched environment.
🐾 More About Dexter
Dexter loves his humans and enjoys cuddles, play time and being close to his people. He walks well on the lead and has excellent stamina, happily joining several walks a day and enjoying long outings. When relaxed, he enjoys chilling at home, squeaky toys, and licky mats, which help him settle.
He can be alert and vocal, especially when hearing noises or seeing other dogs. Dexter is very food motivated and currently struggles with guarding food, particularly around other dogs. If he gains access to another dog’s food and someone tries to remove it, he may growl or attempt to snap. This will need experienced, calm management and positive training.
Dexter also does not enjoy being physically moved or tightly handled. He communicates discomfort clearly and responds well to gentle guidance and reward-based interaction.
Same time his recent family describe him as a sweet boy who loves deeply, enjoys affection, and believe he will flourish with the right people and continued training.
🏡 Ideal Home
Dexter needs an understanding home that is active and committed to helping him progress with training, especially around food boundaries. He would suit a calm household with adults or older children who respect his space, ideally in a home where his time-to-time barking won’t cause issues. He may live with another suitable dog, preferably one confident and playful rather than very calm or elderly. Dexter will thrive with routine, consistency, kind handling and people who see his sensitivity and intelligence for what they are.

Dexter is neutered, microchipped, and the rescue has completed his dental treatment. He is otherwise healthy.
