Sadly, we have made the very difficult decision to look for a new home for our 2-year-old, castrated Cockapoo.
We only brought him home today, and although he is a lovely-looking, affectionate dog, the transition has been much harder than we anticipated. He has become very unsettled in our home and has nipped/bitten our children several times. He has also nipped when being handled around his face.
Because we have young children, we don’t feel it would be responsible to keep him in a situation where either he or the children are uncomfortable or unsafe. This is not a decision we’ve taken lightly, and we want to find him a home that is much better suited to his needs.
He has had a very stressful transition today, having left the family he knows, travelled to a new home and been introduced to new people and animals, so we don’t want to make assumptions about his long-term temperament. However, we do need to be completely honest that he has bitten/nipped members of our family since arriving.
For this reason, we are looking for an adult-only or very experienced home, ideally someone who understands dogs and can give him plenty of time and space to settle. We would also prefer a home without cats or young children.
He is currently safe and being kept separate from the children and cats while we arrange his next home.
We are looking for someone who will genuinely put his welfare first and understand that he may need patience, structure and potentially professional behavioural support.
Please only get in touch if you are experienced with dogs and are prepared to discuss his behaviour openly. We would rather take our time and find the right home than rush him into another unsuitable situation.
