Description

Rocco is a very sweet 4yr old Jackshund. Unfortunately, with a very heavy heart, we are having to part with him due to an allergy of a family member. Rocco is a very loving dog, always down to snuggle up beside you and occasionally rest his head on you. Rocco was previously bought from a neglectful household and so does have some flaws because of that, which will be discussed. He is potty trained, typically lingers by the door when he needs to go. However, he will occasionally have an accident here and there if left for too long. Rocco doesn't usually bark, but will bark in response to other dogs. We're unsure how he is with cats or other pets. He is okay with other humans, a few barks here and there but never aggressive. Rocco is very alert and will get up to the slightest noise. He does pretty well at recall and responding to his name. He loves to lick and be picked up occasionally. He loves a slow and casual stroll, will happily jog. He gets a bit nervous in the car but with a bit of affection he will be okay.

Pros

Exceptionally long lifespan of 12 to 16 years with good care
Low grooming requirements for short-coated individuals — weekly brushing is sufficient
Compact, adaptable size suits flat and apartment living
Lively, entertaining companion with great personality for experienced small-dog owners

Cons

Dachshund heritage carries a serious risk of Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD) — spinal health must be carefully managed
Independent, stubborn character from both parent breeds makes training a challenge without consistency
Strong prey drive from both parents means unreliable recall and risk around small animals
Not well suited to families with very young children due to small size and occasional snappiness
