Rehoming due to a very difficult family situation
This is incredibly hard for me to write, but I want to be completely honest and responsible.
About a year ago I adopted a dog, not knowing she was pregnant at the time. She later gave birth to four puppies. Two of them are now in loving, stable homes. One stayed with me, and one went to another home where, unfortunately, he was not being cared for properly. Because he was still registered to me, I took him back before ******************, in December last year, as I could not leave him in those conditions.
Since bringing him back, the situation in my home has become extremely difficult. I now have three dogs, all closely bonded to people and all wanting attention. Unfortunately, jealousy, stress and tension have built up, especially involving the mother, Lucy, and this recently led to a serious fight where all dogs were injured.
I love all three dogs deeply. This is not about choosing one over another. It is about safety and wellbeing. I am simply no longer able to manage all three dogs together, and for their own good, I need to find the right home for one of them.
Below is a full and honest description of each dog.
Lucy (staffy)
• Female, born 25 November 2021 (5 years old this year)
• Microchipped
• Vaccinations due/need updating
• Very affectionate, loyal and people-focused
• Loves cuddles and being close to her person
• House-trained
• Does not destroy the house, but when very stressed she may grab items and run off with them
• Suffers from separation anxiety
• Strong bond with her owner, can be controlling when anxious
• Pulls strongly on walks and can be difficult to handle
• Has shown aggression when living with other dogs due to jealousy and stress
Lucy is not aggressive by nature and is not aggressive towards children. She loves people, but she has been through a lot before I adopted her and is emotionally very sensitive. I believe she would do best in a calm home as the only pet, ideally without very young children, with someone experienced who understands anxious dogs and can give her time, structure and reassurance.
Sonia (staffy×cane corso)
• Female, born 10 December 2024
• Not yet vaccinated
• Not microchipped
• Very gentle, calm and sensitive
• Extremely sweet and affectionate
• Loves children and people
• Completely non-aggressive
• The smallest and most delicate of the three dogs
Sonia has always been a shy, fearful puppy. The problems started mainly after Stefan returned home. Since then, she has become more stressed, especially because he is bigger and very people-focused. She needs a very calm, gentle home where people will “handle her with care”.
Sonia currently uses puppy pads in the house. This is not because she is naughty – the situation at home makes it impossible for me to walk all three dogs separately. When I take one dog out, the others cry, howl and become distressed. All dogs have constant access to a secure garden, but due to stress, Sonia still uses pads indoors. With time, patience and consistency, this can be improved.
She rarely destroys anything. Like any young dog, she may occasionally chew something small, but she is past the stage of constant puppy destruction. She is curious, playful and very loving.
Stefan (staffy×cane corso)
• Male, born 10 December 2024
• Microchipped
• Vaccinations up to date
• Walks well on the lead
• Does not pull
• Does not destroy things
• Friendly, social and affectionate
• Very bonded to people
Stefan is generally well-behaved and stable. However, because I do not have full information about the months he spent away from me, there are some things I cannot guarantee. Since returning, he has added to the tension in the household, as all dogs compete for attention.
Additional important information
• All dogs are fine with humans touching their food bowls
• There is no food aggression towards people
• Between dogs, they may growl if one approaches another’s bowl, but they move away and there have been no food-related fights
• They love children (Sonia especially)
• Lucy is not aggressive towards children, but due to her anxiety and past, I feel she would cope better without very young children
• Limited experience with cats – in the past, cats have usually been the ones to attack first, and the dogs either back away or defend themselves
Please note that none of the dogs have been neutered/spayed yet.
This decision is heartbreaking. If I could safely keep all three dogs, I would. Unfortunately, I have to accept that I cannot give all of them what they need while keeping everyone safe.
My only goal is to ensure that each dog ends up in a loving, permanent home, not passed around and not placed in the wrong situation. They are all wonderful dogs who deserve stability, patience and understanding.
