💔 Rescue Story
Ruby’s world changed dramatically after the sudden loss of her owner’s husband. He was Ruby’s constant companion, he worked from home and had been with her every day, they were bonded soulmates and his absence affected her deeply.
As life circumstances shifted and work commitments increased, Ruby was spending a lot of time alone or in kennels — something she found difficult and unsettling. Her owner made the decision to seek a new home for Ruby, not because she was unwanted, but because she deserves stability, presence and emotional support that could no longer be provided. Ruby is currently in foster and now seeking a permanent home.

🐶 Ruby is a loving, affectionate little girl who forms strong bonds with people. Once she knows you, she is warm, excited and joyful.
🐶 Ruby loves her walks, has excellent recall, and enjoys playtime with dogs of a similar size and temperament. Larger dogs can feel a bit overwhelming to her, and she prefers interactions that are gentle and balanced.
🐶 Ruby is well mannered in the home, fully house trained, and can be left alone for short periods after she settles. She enjoys routine, currently sleeps in a crate and responds well to basic commands such as sit, wait and paw.
🐶 Ruby can get overwhelmed in unfamiliar and confined situations and benefits from reassurance and calm handling. With understanding and consistency, she settles well and shows her true, affectionate nature.
🐶 Ruby is touch sensitive and this has led to bites in the home. With an understanding home, she gradually builds up trust to allow handling and cleaning. Whilst she is a loving girl, she would benefit from a home that understands she isn’t going to be super cuddly and that interactions should be on her terms.
🐶 Ruby has exhibited resource guarding behaviour with high-value treats, her bed and sometimes spaces which has led to bites in the home. This behaviour has improved in foster but requires ongoing training.

“We’ve fostered Ruby for nearly three weeks now and she is a super sweet girl that has come on leaps and bounds in foster. We’re an active couple with two dogs and she has been fully absorbed into our routine. She’s walked around 2 hours daily, been out for pub lunch’s, met family, and recently been on holiday with us - she’s taken all of it in her stride. She has sensitivity to touch and this was very clear when she first came into foster as it led to bites. With positive reinforcement and guidance, Ruby is now happy being picked up and cleaned off after muddy walks. Her resource guarding has improved immensely and like the touch sensitivity, will need an experienced understanding home that can commit to ongoing training.”

🐶 Ruby would thrive in a confident, experienced and active where someone is always around — such as a home worker, a calm couple, or a slightly older, settled household looking for companionship.
🐶 She would enjoy having another small, friendly and balanced dog, but would also be happy as the only dog if she has enough human interaction.
🐶 Ruby needs a home that values routine, understanding and patience that can help with ongoing training around her touch sensitivity and resource guarding.
