💕 A little bit about Nona
Beautiful Nona is a gentle, intelligent and inquisitive young girl who is looking for a very special home where she can finally feel safe and settled.
When Nona first arrived in foster, she was extremely scared and nervous. Everything was new to her and she needed time to understand that she was safe. Since then, her foster family have watched her slowly begin to come out of her shell – and underneath that worried exterior is the sweetest little character. 🥰
Once Nona learns to trust you, she forms a lovely bond. Her favourite pastime is being a proper couch potato! 🛋️ She loves curling up on her blanket, snoozing away and occasionally watching a bit of TV with her humans.
She’s also beginning to enjoy affection and will now nudge you with her nose when you stop stroking her – we think that’s Nona’s way of saying, “Excuse me, I didn’t say you could stop!” 😂❤️
🐶 What is Nona like with other dogs?
Nona currently lives with a male dog called Spencer and gets along well with him. She enjoys going for walks alongside him and appears to take some confidence from having him there.
She is also perfectly happy relaxing at home without him and isn’t overly dependent on another dog.
Because of this, we feel Nona could live with a suitable resident dog or potentially be an only dog, provided her adopters are patient and willing to help build her confidence.
🌳 Walks & the outside world
This is where Nona will need her new family’s understanding.
The outside world can still feel very big and frightening to her. She is nervous on walks, can be jumpy around noises and is particularly worried by unfamiliar dogs.
She walks nicely on her lead but prefers walking alongside Spencer for reassurance. Sudden movements and loud noises can frighten her, so her adopters must be careful and understand that Nona is a potential flight risk when frightened.
She isn’t a dog who needs to be dragged around busy town centres, cafés and crowded places. At least initially, she’d much rather have quiet walks, predictable routines and plenty of time to build her confidence at her own pace.
👨👩👧 What sort of family does Nona need?
Nona can be nervous around unfamiliar people and fast movements. Although she has become comfortable with several visiting adults, she has shown particular nervousness around the child in her foster home, including growling and attempting to nip/bite his leg when he was moving around her.
For this reason, we are looking for a calm home with older, sensible and dog-savvy children only, or ideally an adult household.
Nona’s signals need to be listened to. Growling is communication, and her new family will need to give her space rather than pushing her into interactions when she’s frightened.
We think she could be particularly well suited to a single person or couple with a quieter lifestyle who can give her time, patience and consistency.
🏡 Life at home
Nona is generally a chilled girl once she feels secure. She is good in her crate and currently sleeps in it overnight. Her nighttime howling has reduced considerably, and she no longer regularly toilets in her crate.
She has also been left safely in her crate for around three hours.
Her housetraining is coming along well, although she does still occasionally have an accident indoors, so her new family should be prepared to continue working on this.
And like many youngsters, Nona occasionally has some questionable opinions about what constitutes a toy! 😂 Remote controls and other household items can apparently look very chewable, so keeping tempting objects out of reach is advisable!
She does have toys but isn’t particularly bothered about them yet, although she enjoys playing with her canine foster brother.
🚗 Other things to know about Nona
Nona settles when travelling in the car but can be sick, so longer journeys may need some preparation.
She can be very jumpy when her lead is being attached and currently finds changes involving her harness stressful. She has not yet visited a groomer.
Meal times are generally fine and she is currently fed separately from the resident dog, mainly to stop him helping himself to her dinner!

Nona isn’t looking for someone who expects a confident, ready-made family pet from day one.
She’s looking for someone who understands nervous rescue dogs and will celebrate the little victories – the first time she approaches for affection, the first relaxed walk, the first time something that once frightened her no longer seems quite so scary.
Give Nona time to trust you and you’ll discover a lovely, sweet, clever little girl who wants nothing more than a safe home, a comfy blanket and someone she can rely on.
