Description
Meet the great Gatsby!
If you've been following our charity a while, you’ve seen him before...
Before his first birthday, he had already packed his life into boxes three times.
When Gatsby came to us a little over 6 months ago, we found him a home, believing we were placing a bright, energetic young cat into his forever home, a fresh start.
Gatsby had already been through two failed adoptions, neither arranged professionally, nor supported with the guidance young cats need. By the time he was surrendered to our charity to help, he was already carrying the impact of repeated instability.
Research shows that early-life stress, instability and repeated rehoming can significantly affect a cat’s emotional regulation and behaviour, often leading to hyperactivity, anxiety, and difficulty coping with change. When Gatsby began to fully settle, we started to see those effects.
He is affectionate. Social. Intelligent.
But he is also extremely high-energy and intense in his interactions. He can be overwhelming with people, especially when overstimulated. That intensity isn’t aggression, it’s dysregulation and insecurity in a young cat who has never had true consistency.
In one of his previous homes, he was kept isolated, which only deepened his abandonment sensitivity.
The good news?
He is currently in foster care and living with other cats. He is doing better. He benefits from feline companionship and would ideally thrive in a home with confident, similarly energetic cats who can match his play style.
We also believe Gatsby would greatly benefit from safe outdoor access - such as a fully cat-proof garden or a spacious, secure catio where he can watch birds, feel the breeze, and safely burn mental energy. He should not be allowed to free-roam, but environmental enrichment, including vertical space, outdoor views, and stimulation, is widely recommended to help high-energy or stress-prone cats regulate and reduce frustration behaviours.
His next home will be his fourth.
We will not take that lightly.
Gatsby needs:
- An experienced and confident cat guardian
- A structured home with routine and enrichment
- High-energy feline companionship
- Safe, secure outdoor access (catio or cat-proof garden preferred)
- A lifelong commitment. Not a trial
This is not a “difficult” cat.
This is a young cat shaped by instability who needs the right environment to flourish.
As with all our rescues, Gatsby is:
✅ Vaccinated
✅ Microchipped
✅ Neutered
✅ Dewormed
✅ Blood tested (FIV-/FeLV-)
✅ Vet health checked
We are determined that his fourth home WILL be his forever.
If you have experience, patience, and the right setup, please reach out to discuss Gatsby further.
If you can offer Gatsby a loving happy ever-after, please get in touch today! We will send you a link to complete our online pre-adoption form and we will also require a home video check as part of our process. If you have any questions, please reach out and one of our small team of volunteers will get back to you as soon as possible.
Please note: Every Cat Matters is an indoor-only rescue. This means all our cats should be kept in a safe, enriching indoor environment, unless they have access to a secure cat-proof garden, catio, or netted balcony.
We believe cats can live full, happy lives without free roaming outdoors. Keeping them safe indoors protects them from road accidents, injuries, contagious illnesses, and territorial fights - while also helping to preserve local wildlife. With love, enrichment, and security, indoor cats truly thrive and live their longest lives.
