Description

Maggie is a very loved family dog - it breaks my heart to write this but after 3 years of trying to manage as a single parent juggling teenagers, work and an unexpected heart condition - I am looking for a new home her where her needs will be better met. POSITIVES: She is great with people and is used to a busy household with lots of people coming and going. She loves all my two teenage daughters friends and they all love her 😊. She can be left for long stretches of time with no problems (8 - 10 hours on the odd occasion and she is fine). She is great off the lead when she has her ball with her and as long as she doesn’t spot a squirrel 😂. I have trained her run with me on the lead and she has learned to match my pace really nicely on a trail run (away from roads). She is mostly (see quirks below) very chilled in the house, spends much of the day sleeping and chilling. She is very clean ( a part from the odd dog in a muddy puddle - see photo). She keeps herself very clean and allows me to brush her teeth etc with no problem. ISSUES: Maggie pulls a bit on the lead and gets over stimulated easily when going out. As a result I walk her on a prong collar or halti. I don’t love this but it has made her manageable and means she walks nicely by my side and does not get as overstimulated. She does not enjoy walking by roads. She is fine (now- and lots of hard work later) to do it, but she is not relaxed in this environment. She chases cats and squirrels. She has some funny quirks in the house - she barks when someone sneezes or when we open or close the curtains or windows 🤷‍♀️ - I just have not been able to stop this in her. Maggie would be well suited to a home where she could have more time spent on training and exercising her. I currently walk her every morning for about 45 minutes. She is fine with this but she could do with more and to have someone who has some time to put her training needs as a priority. She is a pleasure to teach new tricks to etc. but I just do not have the time and have struggled to make her my priority! She has always been up to date with all injections (including kennel cough) and flea and worming treatment and she is spayed.
