Description
Pongo is a 10 year old large, collie-type male dog. Pongo is currently residing at the UK kennels OSH. Pongo arrived in the UK in 2022. He was surrendered after just three weeks. This was primarily down to there not being separation between the resident dog and Pongo having a fight but the adopter not willing to separate.
Pongo then spent a few months at the UK kennels OSH before he then moved to a foster home. He was surrendered after just a couple of months due to not accepting the child in the home and having guarding behaviours towards him. His family said he was a laid back boy and enjoyed having a snooze. Pongo had also bitten the son of the home due to him guarding his food. No injury sustained. On the day of Pongo being transported to OSH, it is reported he attempted and bit the adopter as well as the transporter, circumstances and severity unknown.
Pongo can be reactive to traffic, dogs and strangers however, he is easily distracted with treats. He is a very happy and affectionate boy and he loves spending time outside sunbathing. He enjoys his walks and walks nicely on the lead, he can go on group walks with no issues. Pongo needs muzzle training due to his bite attempts with strangers but he isn't comfortable wearing it yet.
Pongo does not like to be groomed and will snap if you pull his fur. He doesn't like the vets and isn't a fan pf the car. Pongo needs a child and pet free home, he doesn't like younger males and has a high prey drive. Pongo has lots of energy for an older boy and enjoys a long walk. He is clean in his kennel and non-destructive, he settles well and shows no signs of separation anxiety, the foster home he as in said he was perfect but unfortunately didn't like the son so they had to return him.
Pongo is very strong on the lead when he's reacting but otherwise walks nicely. He is currently on yumove as he struggles with his joints. Pongo is very friendly and affectionate with the staff and the volunteers that he knows. He does food guard so the staff respect his boundaries and don't go near him when he is eating.
