Description
Ziggy is a short hair collie coming from a working line who has been in the family for 5 years. Unfortunately, due to a death in the family, we're looking for someone who can help re-home him.
He can be a lovely affectionate companion who enjoys a long walk, he is well liked at the local pub and loves the fuss offered to him by the locals yet still knows when to settle under the table.
Unfortunately, my dad's death has left his routine disrupted, and my mum cannot cope with his strength nor the behavioural issues he has developed in this time. I would personally love to re-home him myself, but I don't live in a place where I would be able to do so.
We're ideally looking for someone who has kept collies before and is able to provide him the outdoor space that he needs. Due to the behavioural issues that have developed, I would not suggest he is a dog that should go to a home with children, but he is happy around other dogs, either on walks, in the pub, or when my sister visits with guide dogs in training. It may be that a male owner is better, only because he bonded more closely with my dad and I, but please don't let that put off the right lady owner.
It's honestly heartbreaking to write this, but please give him a chance.
I'm advertising on behalf of family, so may miss some things out, if there are any questions please feel free to reach out and I'll answer as soon as I'm able. I'll try and pre empt some questions before
Medical: Ziggy will be up to date with vaccinations hopefully by the time you meet him. I'm taking him for this on the 16th July
He has been diagnosed with hip dysplasia. It does not generally manifest unless he is allowed to run too long in which case his hind legs become stiff but it does not cause major mobility issues at the moment. He is on previcox and gabapentin to manage the pain.
Behavioural: he will try and control people's movements in the house. He can become frustrated which leads to lip curls and can lead to biting if ignored. He will ask for attention often. If ignored he has shown destructive behaviour in chewing furniture and scratching at walls. I honestly believe that most of this is related to his lack of routine and sometimes limited space to move about in, alongside a lot of instability in his life - when I have dog sit in the past, I've not experienced this personally, but have seen this happen more since my dad's passing
DOB: Note that this is approximate, he is 5 years old I believe, but I need to check the exact DOB
