Finding the Right Home for Mushu
Making the decision to let Mushu go is one of the hardest things I have ever had to do. I have loved him for the past four years, and this is not a decision I have made lightly. However, I know that rehoming him is the best thing for him, and my priority is finding the family where he can truly thrive.
Mushu is the most affectionate, loving dog with an incredibly big personality. He has a way of making everyone around him smile. One of his most iconic habits is knowing exactly when you've finished a meeting. As soon as he hears that slight change in your voice as you awkwardly wrap up the conversation, he'll be waiting by your feet, ready to greet you as if to say, "Good job!" .
Like many dogs, Mushu isn't perfect. His biggest challenge is that he is reactive. If he sees another dog approaching, he may bark and pull towards them. Similarly, if someone approaches you suddenly or makes unexpected movements while he's on lead, he can react because he believes he is protecting you.
The positive news is that Mushu has made incredible progress. When I first adopted him, he would bark at every dog he saw, even if they were at the other end of the road. Through consistent training, his threshold has improved dramatically. Now, he is able to remain calm until dogs are much closer, and with the training techniques we've developed, his barking can usually be prevented altogether, as long as his handler is attentive and proactive.
Another huge achievement is that Mushu has gone from being unable to be around other dogs to becoming part of a regular dog walking group. This transformation shows just how intelligent and capable he is when given clear guidance and consistency.
Ultimately, Mushu is an incredibly clever dog who thrives with routine, patience, and ongoing training. Unfortunately, due to my health and the fact that I care for him alone, I can no longer give him the consistency he deserves. That is why I know he would be happier in a different home.
The Home I'm Looking For
I truly believe Mushu would flourish with:
* A couple or family with teenage children or older.
* A quiet road or peaceful neighbourhood where his anxiety isn't constantly triggered.
* A secure garden where he can relax, explore, and enjoy being outside.
* People who are willing to continue the training he has already worked so hard on.
In the right environment, Mushu will reward you with endless affection, loyalty, and companionship. His progress over the years has shown just how much potential he has.
To help make the transition as smooth as possible, I've built a wonderful support network around Mushu that his new family will inherit. This includes trusted dog trainers, dog sitters, and groomers who all know and absolutely adore him. I will also provide 3 paid sessions with his trainer to help you understand and answer any questions you may have about him. My hope is that his next family will not only gain an amazing dog but also a community of people who already care deeply about him.
More than anything, I want Mushu to have the happy, fulfilling life he deserves.
