Description

🐾 Mars: High-Drive 5-Month Border Collie x Kelpie Boy Looking for an Experienced Active Home 🐾 About Mars: Name: Mars Breed: Border Collie x Kelpie mix (Boy) DOB: 1st May 2026 (5 months old) Health Status: Fully vaccinated, dewormed, flea-treated, and microchipped. Temperament & Socialization: Extremely intelligent, sweet, and highly driven. Lives harmoniously with our older resident dog with zero issues — loves play-wrestling and gets along great with other dogs. Current Training Needs & Behavior: Leash Walking: He is currently strong and reactive on the lead (pulls and barks when excited/stimulated outdoor). Needs ongoing loose-lead training and focus work from an experienced handler. Herding Drive: Shows a strong herding fixation and intense predatory/herding instinct towards other animals (such as cats). He completely "locks on" and fixates on them. Ideal Home & Requirements: Experienced Owners Only: Needs a family experienced with high-drive working breeds (Collies, Kelpies, or Working Sheepdogs) who understand intense energy, mental engagement, impulse control, and lead training. Cat & Small Animal Free Home: Must go to a home without cats or small furries. Activities & Lifestyle: Perfect candidate for dog sports (Agility, Flyball, Obedience) or an active rural/farm lifestyle. Not suitable as a passive family pet. Reason for Rehoming: We simply lack the experience and tools to manage his high-drive working behaviors and reactivity, as our older Border Collie never presented such challenges. We want Mars to go to a knowledgeable home where his full potential can be properly guided. 📍 Location: Swadlincote, Derbyshire / South Derbyshire
