Description
How do I put Mr. T in to words-
He is Mr. T is officially the most unlucky dog I know - poor boy. Add to this a ‘committed’ adopter reserving him for two months then withdrawing two days after pledging their dedication to him & you wonder what he did to deserve it all-
He was rescued on the 12th May 2024 without any fur
He was at the vets from then to 19th June 24’
A mission was launched by my welfare to build a new enclosure while Mr. T received the urgent Veterinary care that he needed. We were lucky enough to have the backing of our supporters & they have been by his side virtually throughout the whole journey
When I collected him it took 3 months of daily washes & treatments by myself to bring his lovely coat back & this is what he went through after that :-
Local Veterinary visits to investigate his ear issue & little lumps on his groin area (we didn’t know it then though a grass seed had entered his body when he was homeless). This was conducted October 24’
Specialist clinic/ CT scans to investigate his ears, full ear cleaning to remove bacteria, skin scraps and scans on the grass seed October 24’
Major surgery with orthopaedic surgeon to remove grass seed from muscle through bone and flush out the 6cm deep infected channel it had caused & remove everything from his ears because my daily cleans weren’t going to be enough- Mr. T is now almost deaf (doesn’t let it define him though - see videos). This was performed December 24’ (becoming deaf slowly is one thing- overnight is another- poor ‘T’- he’s so isolated & confused)
Then all his incisors, lower canines removed and polymers to other tooth fractures - he was kicked in the mouth & eye when young & has a small overbite FEBUARY 25’
One thing is for sure - he’s not going to cost a great deal for anyone in the U.K. - thank you to break the chains & all its members. The vet remarked, ‘you’ve done more for him than most owners I know’. The shame of it is that Mr.T with his beautiful coat & quickness to learn didn’t deserve to be set back when he’d come so far. When I saw him all shaved and unable to hear my voice I pitied him.
The video is mostly to showcase his remarkable talent in understanding sign language (picked up overnight).
His resilience through all this adversity is remarkable. His perplexity palpable & his seclusion in his new silent world enough to melt a glazier.
It is with devastation & genuine shock that I once more put this handsome lad up for adoption.
Must haves/ credentials/ qualities etc.
* Mr.T isn’t looking for any home- he needs a specialist adopter as he’s one dog that can absolutely not fail.
* We anticipate separation anxiety. He was very afraid when we got him & wouldn’t look at us. We had to gain his trust
* He can be insecure & territorial with the land & house (fear) as this is an isolated area so he doesn’t get chance to socialise here. He’d absolutely love a canine companion though sadly gets ignored here by the other dogs.
* This area isn’t safe for animals and dog walkers. People who like dogs & opportunities to socialise doesn’t exist as it does elsewhere
* He is amazing when he’s passing people in rural areas, when cars go past & now less interested when he spots other dogs
* Deafness halted progress & training - signing is working well
* He isn’t used to males as not been around them
* Picks up things readily so easy to train
* Treat focused and doesn’t snatch
* Walks like crufts on the lead- always has without my input - only ever planted but I eased him out of that
* He has great recall after training though visually not audibly unless I’m loud & he’s close by. He hears clapping too at times
* Amazing in busy, noisy built up towns etc. & doesn’t react to anyone or anything
* Good at the vets
* This is probably due to fear and it’s that subdued response to anxiety that may be his greatest asset in the U.K.
* He’s ok if approached by strangers when out and about it’s just that at home there is no stimuli or anything for him to do so he focuses on rejecting visitors on the rare occasion they call
* The beautiful walks & entertainment on offer in the U.K. will change his focus
* Mr. T is living with cats currently & was great with a rescue kitten though he can chase after he went deaf so a home without cats is fine
As a welfare I’m looking for a trainer who uses gentle guidance (positive reinforcement) or an experienced dog owner. We are also prepared to contribute a portion towards training as we are that committed to him & his success. He absolutely cannot fail-
* He needs a garden
* Other dogs go play with either within the household or access to
* Someone who is present all the time, for example someone who works from home
* An active person who can go on long walks and give him access to adventures to burn off his energy. Whilst we don’t know his exact age his playfulness puts him at around 2.5-3yrs
* Someone who is happy to shampoo him so his fur & skin can be maintained
* Secure garden. Mr.T can jump & climb & loves to explore
Other things :)
* He’s a smallish size though strong
* Mr. T weighs around 15kg
* Course haired & ruff
* 51cm from paw to top head, 52cm long from shoulder to base tail & 58cm around chest.
* He’ll be sent with a bed, my harness, lead, toys, collar & medical history (subject to a donation)
