The Flat Coated Retriever, also known as Flat-Coated Retriever, Flatcoat, Flattie, is often affectionately referred to as a "flattie". They are large hunting dogs similar to the Golden and Labrador Retrievers but have a longer muzzle, which sets them apart from the other two breeds. They love to be in and around water and will gravitate to it whenever they have the opportunity. They are slow to grow up, which should be taken into account when training them, but this also means that they retain their puppy-like characteristics for much longer than other dog breeds.
