The Scottish Terrier, also known as Scottie, Aberdeenie, is a delightful dog, and although it is feisty, it makes a wonderful companion and family dog. Their coat is typically black, but brindle and wheaten are also allowed under the Kennel Club breed standard. Scotties are small dogs with short legs and lots of feathers around the muzzle and on the legs, which adds to their charming appearance. They are often called Aberdeenies and have found their way into the hearts and homes of many people not only in the UK, but in other parts of the world - and for good reason.

Scottish Terriers can be good house dogs if their independent, strong-willed, and territorial nature is taken into account. They are loyal and form strong bonds with one or two family members, doing well with proper socialisation. However, they can be stubborn and aloof, and are best suited for families who understand their nature, typically those without very small or inexperienced children.
