Bedlington Terrier Puppies for sale in Manchester, Greater Manchester

5 Bedlington Terrier Puppies for sale in Manchester, Greater Manchester

The Bedlington Terrier, also known as Rothbury Terrier, Rodbery Terrier, Rothbury's Lamb, is a rather unique looking dog, often described as "lamb-like" and they are known for being excellent companions and pets, as well as being popular in the show ring. True to their terrier type, Bedlingtons are "spirited and fierce" as they are very skilled hunters in the field and remain so when kept in a domestic environment. One of the oldest purebred terriers ever, the Bedlington was originally bred in northern England, but by 1877 its reputation as an extremely capable hunter was spreading to other regions of the country. These dogs may look like lambs, but they have the heart of a lion.

FAQs

Is a Bedlington Terrier a good family dog?

Yes, Bedlington Terriers are generally considered good family dogs. They are affectionate, gentle, loyal, and have a sweet disposition, making them excellent companions for families. They enjoy attention and playfulness, especially as puppies, and typically bond well with children who handle them kindly. Early socialisation is important for a balanced temperament, and they may do best as the only dog in the household since they can be aggressive toward other dogs of the same sex if not properly socialised.

How much does a Bedlington Terrier cost?

The cost of a Bedlington Terrier puppy from a reputable breeder typically ranges between $1,000 and $3,000, with higher prices for show-quality or champion bloodline dogs. In the UK, monthly expenses for upkeep, including food, veterinary care, and grooming, average around £70, with lifetime costs potentially exceeding £12,000. Adopting from rescue centres may be a more cost-effective alternative.

Do Bedlington Terriers bark a lot?

Bedlington Terriers have a moderate to above-average barking tendency. They usually bark to alert their owners to new people, noises, or other stimuli but are not generally considered excessive barkers. Early training and socialisation can help manage any excessive barking tendencies, making barking behaviour more manageable.

Do Bedlington Terriers have health problems?

Bedlington Terriers are generally healthy with an average lifespan of 11 to 16 years, but like many purebred dogs, they can be predisposed to certain genetic health issues. Prospective owners should seek reputable breeders who perform health screenings and be prepared for routine veterinary care and grooming maintenance to keep the dog healthy and comfortable.
