The Goldendoodle, also known as Groodle or Golden Doodle, is a popular cross between a Golden Retriever and a Standard or Miniature Poodle, both pure breeds. This beloved family and companion dog comes in multiple generations to suit different needs: F1 Goldendoodles are a 50/50 first-generation cross with variable coat types (straight, wavy, or curly) and unpredictable shedding, making them less reliable for allergies. F1B Goldendoodles (75% Poodle, 25% Golden Retriever) offer curlier, wavy, low-shedding coats ideal for allergy sufferers. F1BB Goldendoodles (87.5% Poodle) provide the most hypoallergenic, non-shedding coats with very curly textures and minimal dander. F2B Goldendoodles (62.5% Poodle) balance low-shedding qualities with the affectionate Golden Retriever temperament, while Multigen Goldendoodles (third generation and beyond) offer the most predictable traits with consistent coat types and stable temperaments—perfect for families seeking a reliable, allergy-friendly companion.
Over the years, Goldendoodles have become one of the most popular designer breeds, which is understandable given their good looks and charming, loyal nature. Grooming needs vary by generation: F1 Goldendoodles require regular brushing and professional grooming, while F1B, F1BB, and Multigen varieties need daily brushing and professional grooming every 6-8 weeks to prevent matting in their curlier, low-shedding coats. With moderate to high energy levels requiring 30-60 minutes of daily exercise, Goldendoodles thrive in active families.
