Shetland pony Horses for sale in Portsmouth, Portsmouth

The Shetland pony, originating from the Shetland Islands of Scotland, is one of the smallest and hardiest pony breeds in the world. Known for its stocky build, the Shetland pony typically stands under 42 inches tall and boasts a dense double coat that protects it from harsh weather conditions. Their coats come in a variety of colours, including black, bay, chestnut, and pinto. These pint-sized powerhouses possess remarkable strength, capable of pulling twice their own weight, a trait developed when they were historically used to haul coal underground during the Victorian era. Shetland ponies are intelligent and gentle but can be stubborn and require consistent training. They make excellent mounts for children, suitable for therapy and driving, and are popular in the UK market, often found listed under keywords such as 'Shetland pony for sale,' 'Shetlands for sale,' and 'miniature Shetland pony for sale.' Their longevity, often surpassing 30 years, makes them a long-term commitment and a beloved companion for enthusiasts seeking a hardy, affectionate pony.
