Description
23mth old ‘Avis’ Devon area-she’ll will give
you everything if you show her love &
compassion in return.
A little bit about their history because they are not defined by it & get through it like the phenomenal & passive souls that they are
Avis & Echo her sister were abandoned to
their fate in a dog intolerant environment
around May 25’ before they were carted off
to a shelter where there is no future for any
animal unless a caring soul changes that.
They huddled together though started to
come out of their shells with echo bring the
more animated of the two. In November of
25’ break the chains welfare rescued Avis &
gave her the opportunity to go to a foster
home in the U.K (echo followed in
December being adopted outright). Avis doesn’t desire
anything other than the area in which she
can flower alongside those that provide the
flowerbed. She wouldn’t react to a fly and
you can see the calming atmosphere that
she brings with her when so many dogs
meet her for the first time and non of them
feel threatened. She’s so docile though far
more than that- she also possesses a
majestic & enchanting aura. If she was in
‘Lord of the rings’ she’d be a she-elf.
Additionally Avis is immensely courageous
& it’s a bravery that is both humbling &
admirable. How did the girl at the back of
the class walk so well to the front past all
the other ‘pupils’? That’s what Avis did on
transport day. She has never been walked
other than to the on-site clinic yet she went
forward in a way that rivalled her more
confident counterparts. That’s Avis right
there in that moment and it’s to be
nurtured, built upon & applauded. Never
has this docile creature even attempted to
show objection or react to us humans and
was as quiet & contained at the vets as any
other time. She just moulds around & within
her surroundings & you couldn’t ask for a
more tranquil companion. In the words of
her foster family:-
“We have been caring for Avis for just 3
weeks. When we collected her she was so
very timid, shaking from top to tail if we
went near her.
she would not come in from the garden so
we would have to carry her in, and then put
her out every few hours. The door was
always open , and within a few days, she
followed us outside.... She will often now
follow us out, then come back in , then out.
Quite the adventure.
She has not had a single accident in the
house, and understands 'have a wee' for
toiletting, and after circling for a bit she will
go.
She also eats very well, and understands
'get your dinner' . We feed her on raw dog
mince slightly warmed and kibble .
Avis would definitely need the company of
other dogs, and has no preference to which
sex.
She has a large pack to choose from here,
and adores Khaly, the grandma of our
pack.
She's not too sure
yet of our shihtzus, i think she gains
confidence from the larger dogs.
She is a very gentle girl.... has nerves....but
she has great potential and will make a
fantastic companion once she learns to
trust them”.
Below when she first arrived at her second
foster placement where we knew she would
have more opportunities - again in the
words of Karen her foster mum:-
“we have had some good progress with
Avis .... She loves her bed , and now doesn't
want
to leave it. We are having to lift her out of it
to carry her outside, but she now goes to
the toilet, and comes in herself and gets
back in her bed. Just need to work on her
going out on her own xxx”
“Up until yesterday morning, we had to slip
lead and bring her in, but since lunch time
yesterday she has been doing it herself.
So proud of her, less than 24 hours.
No accidents in doors and is toiletting
outside.
We are giving her today then tomorrow will
get her out for a short walk.... She's a
beautiful girl. Doesn't come to us for
strokes , and will back off atm, it if she is in
her bed, we all talk to her and stroke her all
and she has stopped shaking now when we
do it xxxx”
We are now a few months on from the above
‘report’ & the foster enthuses about how
Avis is running out of her bed to join the
queue for food, playing with the other dogs
& really finding her mojo.
FEBUARY 26’ in fosters words:-
‘She was better today going out with
Caesar, kept going to him for reassurance I
think.
Her walks are a bit chaotic (for me) but for
her a lovely enrichment walk. She is so
good and her tail was out wagging after a
short while.
Avis’s must haves.
