Description

Amber has flown from Cyprus to find her forever home and is currently in foster in Wigan This is what her foster says about her Amber is a very sweet and loving dog. She has an affectionate temperament and loves nothing more than to be cuddled and get a lot of fuss. She is quite calm in the house but gets very excitable on walks where there are birds and squirrels are around She’s responsive to short lead training, attached at 2 points on her harness, and will come to heel with treats when she’s being walked alone (without our other dog) and in a relatively unstimulating environment like a housing estate. If she is walking in a wooded area within sight or sound of birds and squirrels Amber’s excitement can be quite hard to manage, so she will need extensive training on the lead. Amber is satisfied with two short lead walks per day although when she has been given the opportunity to run around in an enclosed space her pace is very fast and she displays limited recall when distracted by prey. Amber hasn’t displayed any aggression around food but she loves her food and is very food and treat orientated. She loves to play with other dogs mouthing and her style of play can be a little rough so play time with another dog should be monitored to avoid escalation. Amber can be reactive to other dogs when out walking with our resident dog; not aggressive, just barking, but this trait appears less often if she is being walked alone on and using a short lead. Amber displays jealousy when attention is given to our resident dog, who is 5, and will often barge into cuddles to demand affection. Amber has been gentle and friendly with our 11 year old nephew but we do not know how she would behave with younger children.so older children only. She has been great with all adults we have introduced her to, friendly, cuddly, and confident. Amber has previously lived in a foster home with a resident cat but we recommend no cats .. Amber is semi- house trained and has had an occasional accident so she has to be encouraged to toilet in the garden. Amber will sleep on her own through the night in a designated space but may take a lot of coaxing into her bed with treats as she generally prefers to be in contact with someone. Amber indicates by pawing at you that she does not like being left at home but she doesn’t cry or become destructive in any way. Though Amber shows potential to live with another dog, we feel she would benefit from being the only dog in a household at first, She does love all the attention .She’ll need quite a bit of solo lead and recall training in stimulating, especially rural environments and this will be easier with an experienced, physically strong handler. Amber loves to run, so access to a large garden or enclosed field would be perfect to provide her a chance to pursue squirrels without consequence! She is great in the car, non destructive in the house, and will settle down for a cuddle whenever her owner does. Amber can apparently eat anything without consequence, she is in good, athletic shape, with strong limbs and a healthy weight. Her hearing and eyesight is excellent. As you can see from the above, the main focus of training must be on the short lead, using treats and gradually introducing her to environments with more stimulation until she can be relied upon to not pull so excessively during walks. We think Amber may benefit from Agility training to divert some of her outdoors energy in a safe environment.
