Description

I have two female guinea pigs. They are both a year old.  Unfortunately they don't get along. Toffee (I think she's an absynnian) is very dominant, and our other girl is suffering because of it. As such, I am rehoming both to separate homes. This is a devastating decision for us to make, we love them both so much, but they need to be in environments that they can flourish in. I don't want to surrender one and get the other a friend. I think they both need to be in herds, or at least be introduced into homes where there are pigs already established. About Toffee: Toffee is incredibly well handled, and is a huge part of our day. She is an indoor pig, and loves floor time. Toffee will sleep on you, and nudge your hand for chin scratches. She is quite tolerant of human affection.  She loves exploring and trying to fit into the smallest spaces she can find. She is very food oriented and loves enrichment activities, such as seeking out hidden basil leaves (she's very quick to find them) and digging through huge piles of hay to find the smallest bits of hidden veg. She loves being cosy, and manages to burrow under any blanket not properly secured.  She enjoys cuddles, more with adults than children but she does sit nicely. Toffee shares a C&C cage with her sister. They are in a 2x4 cage (140cm x 70cm). She has a hammock that she adores, and shares two houses within her enclosure. She has access to lots of hay, and spends a lot of time burrowing her entire body underneath it (you can usually just see her face as she comes out for air, or her bum sticking out at the other end). Their bedding is fleece, and they have fleece pee pads and bath mats to lay on. She eats mostly anything you give her but the below are a guide: Unlimited hay, veggies (lettuce, peppers, spinach, kale, green beans, basic, parsley, strawberry tops, carrot peel occasionally, baby corn, celery etc), Excel Guinea Pig Nuggets with Mint. She doesn't like pea flakes, her favourite treat is the seeds from a red pepper. Toffee has been handled almost daily since we got her. She is very good with handling, doesn't run away when you go to pick her up usually, and enjoys chin and ear scratches. She is more comfortable when an adult is holding her and will snuggle on your chest. She is good with kids too, but she does get more restless. She absolutely despises having her hair brushed. Her breed is either Abyssinian or Texel, so she needs grooming frequently. If you dangle lettuce in front of her she usually tolerates it. In the summer we did have to keep trimming her, she has a lot of hair. She's not a massive fan of the clippers but again, she will (mostly) happily munch on lettuce and let you do it. She has gotten better with having her nails trimmed and we can mostly manage it without too much upset. She has never bitten a human. Toffee is beautiful, she has a little capybara face and is quite loving (for a Guinea Pig). She is very dominant with her 'cage mate', and needs to be in an environment with a herd that already has an established hierarchy. She is very vocal, and likes "talking" to her humans. She will wheek if you so much as crinkle tinfoil, there's no fooling her! I will include her clippers, a house, a water bottle, some nuggets and some bedding for her.
