It is with an incredibly heavy heart that I am looking for a new home for Archie. This decision has been made through absolutely no fault of his own. Since becoming a single parent to my 1-year-old, I simply don’t have the time and capacity that Archie deserves anymore. He is a wonderful dog and this is a decision I have not taken lightly. Archie is a beautiful purebred Cocker Spaniel, currently 2 years old and turning 3 on 30th January. He is male, not neutered and fully house-trained. I have owned Archie since he was 8 weeks old. Archie is a very loving, playful and energetic boy. He has a huge personality and is incredibly loving towards the people he knows and trusts. He is also very loyal and protective of the people that he loves, which is something I feel is important to be completely honest about. Because of this, Archie can be initially nervous and wary around strangers that come into his home, and people he doesn’t know and may bark and growl when someone new approaches or enters his space, though does settle down once he feels comfortable. This is his way of being protective and communicating that he isn’t comfortable yet. Once he has had time to realise someone is safe, he settles and is much more relaxed. He therefore needs an experienced owner who understands dogs, particularly spaniels, and who will be patient and consistent with him. He isn’t a dog I’d recommend to a first-time owner or someone looking for a dog who will immediately be comfortable with everyone. Archie is fantastic with children and other dogs and I genuinely think he would benefit from having another friendly dog around. He does not like cats, so a cat-free home is essential. He is house-trained and knows basic commands including sit and paw. He has also previously been left for up to around 8 hours and settles well, happily chilling out. Archie has never been destructive, or chewed any property. 🏡 The home Archie needs Experienced homes only, please. My priority is finding Archie a home where he can be properly understood, loved and given the time and structure he needs. Ideally, I am looking for someone who: • Has previous experience with Cocker Spaniels, particularly working/active spaniels • Has the time and commitment to continue his training and give him plenty of physical and mental stimulation • Understands that he can be nervous around unfamiliar people and will give him the time and space he needs • Can provide a secure, safe and loving home • Ideally has another friendly dog for companionship • Ideally has experience working with dogs or lives somewhere rural/farm-based where Archie can have a fulfilling, active lifestyle. He enjoys his toys, ball, long walks and agility courses. Archie is energetic and would absolutely thrive with someone who wants to work with him, train him and give him a purpose. He has so much potential and so much love to give. I will not be choosing a new home based simply on who can pay the most. I want to speak to people, understand their experience and circumstances and make sure Archie is going somewhere that is genuinely right for him, and won’t be moved home. I want to find a home that I know he will stay at forever. £400 – experienced home only.
