Description
🐾 Jet – Nearly 1 Year Old German Shepherd x Labrador
German Shepherd x Labrador | Male | Born 30th October 2025 | Nearly 1 year old
This is an incredibly difficult advert for us to write, and one we have desperately hoped we would never have to make.
Jet has been part of our family since he was 8 weeks old and is a very loved member of our household. We have put a huge amount of time, love and effort into raising him and have been desperate to make things work.
However, as Jet has grown and started moulting heavily, my allergies have become increasingly difficult to manage. Unfortunately, this has meant that our home has had to become quite restricted, particularly because Jet cannot go upstairs due to the amount of fur getting into our bedroom and causing me breathing difficulties. We also have two young children and a very busy day-to-day family life, meaning we are out of the house regularly.
We are therefore not looking to simply sell Jet to the first person interested. We are putting feelers out to see if there is a home that may be a better fit for him and where he can have the time, attention, exercise and training that he deserves.
❤️ About Jet
Jet is an incredibly loving, affectionate and people-oriented dog. He loves attention and wants to be involved in everything you’re doing.
He is extremely food and ball motivated and is absolutely obsessed with his ball! His ball is his favourite thing in the world and is a fantastic motivator for training.
He already knows a number of commands, including:
* Sit
* Lie down
* Wait (including waiting for his dinner)
* Leave it (can put a treat in front of him and when told to leave it he will until you say ‘good boy go get it’
* Back up
* Middle
* Fetch
* Find it
* Place
He is also crate trained and settles very quickly in his crate and always has done since bringing him home💙
He is a very clever dog and picks things up quickly, but being a young, energetic dog, he still needs consistent training and boundaries.
🎾 Training & behaviour
We want to be completely honest about where Jet is currently at.
He is still learning and can be challenging when excited. He currently needs further work with:
* Jumping up when excited
* Counter surfing
* Pulling on the lead (this has become more recent)
* Settling when he wants attention
* Demand barking, particularly when he wants someone to play ball with him.
Jet can be very enthusiastic and persistent when he wants to play, so he would suit someone who is prepared to continue his training rather than expecting a completely settled adult dog.
He also doesn’t bark a huge amount only when someone is at the door or when we are leaving the house.
We believe many of these behaviours can be improved with consistent training, structure, exercise and maturity, but we want to be upfront about them.
🐕 Exercise
Jet is an energetic young dog and needs plenty of exercise and mental stimulation.
We regularly take him to the park on a long line where he has the opportunity to run and play fetch with his ball. He has a good recall when playing and is generally much more interested in his ball than other dogs when he’s playing.
He would ideally suit someone with a large secure garden and/or someone who enjoys long walks and outdoor activities.
🐶 Other dogs
Jet is good with other dogs but hasn’t had a huge amount of experience around them.
He recently stayed at kennels where the dogs are socialised with each other, and we were told he was absolutely in his element playing with the other dogs and his ball.
He is very playful and would benefit from continuing to have positive experiences with well-socialised dogs.
👨👩👧👦 Children & people
Jet is good with children and has grown up in a home with our two young children.
He is also good with people generally, although he can jump up when excited and this is something we’re continuing to work on.
He has not been around cats, so we don’t know how he would be with them.
🩺 Health
* Born: 30th October 2025
* Nearly 1 year old
* Not neutered
* Up to date with vaccinations/immunisations
* Microchipped
🏡 The home we’re looking for
We are looking for someone who:
* Understands large/active breeds
* Has the time and patience to continue his training
* Can provide plenty of exercise and mental stimulation
* Ideally has a secure garden
* Understands that he is still a young dog and is not fully mature or settled yet
* Is prepared for an energetic, affectionate and sometimes demanding dog
* Will treat him as part of the family
We would prefer an experienced home, particularly someone familiar with German Shepherds or similar active breeds, although the right person and circumstances are more important than simply having owned one before.
❤️ Why we are considering rehoming
This is the hardest part for us.
We have had Jet since he was 8 weeks old and he is genuinely loved by all of us. We have been desperate to make things work and have spent a long time trying to manage his needs alongside our family life.
This is not a decision we want to make, and we are not in a rush to send him anywhere. We want to find out whether there is a genuinely suitable home where Jet can thrive and receive everything he deserves.
Feel free to ask any questions and can arrange to meet him if generally interested.
Please only enquire if you genuinely understand the commitment involved in owning a young German Shepherd cross and are prepared for the training and exercise he still needs.
Jet is a very special dog to us, and finding the right home for him is far more important to us than simply finding him a home quickly. We also hope that if he finds a suitable home that they would be willing to send us updates and how he is thriving in his new home💙
