Description

Maisie is a really intelligent and sensitive border collie. We rescued her just over a year ago from a shelter in Northern Ireland. Her vaccinations are up to date and she's on monthly flea/worming treatment. She has no known medical issues and seems very healthy. When we first got Maisie she was around 7 months old and incredibly nervous. She'd been raised on a farm — neglected, abused and underfed. She'd never seen a leash, didn't understand what treats were, and had never lived in a house. She hadn't been socialised at all. She's come so, so far. She has a strong grasp of commands like sit, drop, stay, wait and heel, and has great recall. She loves doing agility at our local dog park, adores a belly rub, and is a pure delight in the house. She's crate trained and fine being left alone for up to 4 hours — she's not destructive and is great at entertaining herself with toys. While she's come a long way and is very loved, she does have some challenges that mean she needs someone experienced with dogs. She can lunge and occasionally attempts to nip at strangers on walks, or when first meeting someone in the house. She's not leash trained and pulls, which can make walks difficult at times. She's brilliant off leash with excellent recall, but needs to go back on the lead when other people or dogs are nearby. She's made good progress socialising with other dogs, though can still be nervous around bigger ones. Ideally, we're looking for someone with experience with challenging dogs and/or border collies. She has huge potential to be a wonderful companion — she just needs an owner with more time, experience and patience to work through her issues. She's such a loving dog, and is calm and patient around children she's never met. We do feel she'd respond better to a female owner, but all enquiries are welcome.
