Description
This is an incredibly difficult post for me to write, but unfortunately, we are having to consider finding Walter a new home. This isn’t a decision we’ve made lightly, and it certainly isn’t because we don’t love him. Sometimes, despite our best intentions, circumstances change, and we have to put a dog’s needs first. ❤️
Walter is now 13 months old. He is a beautiful boy with so much potential, and when he’s comfortable with you, he is incredibly loving and affectionate. He really is a gorgeous dog, and we want nothing more than for him to find a home where he can thrive.
However, I want to be completely honest about Walter because finding the right home for him is absolutely essential.
🐾 Walter’s needs:
* He is an incredibly anxious dog who struggles with unfamiliar people, particularly when people come into the home.
* He barks persistently when anxious. Given his size and deep bark, this can come across as quite intimidating or aggressive, although anxiety is a significant factor.
* He isn’t great with other dogs, so any potential home would need to consider this carefully.
* He is a very large breed (he weighs 70kg) and doesn’t always realise just how big he is!
For these reasons, I would not recommend a home with children or one where he would regularly be around young children. His size alone means he could easily knock someone over without meaning to.
Our trainer believes Walter has a great deal of potential and could thrive with someone who has the time, patience and commitment to work with his anxiety. Sadly, with everything going on in my life at the moment and our granddaughter now growing and approaching the crawling stage, I have to be realistic about what I can manage and provide for him.
There are also the practical considerations of having a giant breed in a home with a baby, including the sheer amount of hair they shed.
Walter is fully Kennel Club registered and is entire (not neutered).
Ideally, we would love him to go to someone with experience of giant or large breeds, who genuinely understands what owning a dog of this size involves and who has the time and dedication to help him reach his potential.
This isn’t about finding just any home for Walter. It’s about finding the right person who can give him the life, security and support he needs.
If you think you might be able to offer Walter the right home, please message me for further information. We would want to have an honest conversation to ensure he’s the right fit for you and your circumstances we won’t let him go to just anyone. He needs regular to access to a garden and wouldn’t suit a small flat, he struggles with going upstairs due to his size.
Please share if you can. ❤️
Walter deserves a home where both he and his owner can be happy, and we want to give him the best possible chance of finding that. 🐾
