Description
Meet Ralph – a loving, loyal Golden Retriever looking for his perfect active home
It is with a very heavy heart that we have made the difficult decision to find Ralph a new home. He has been a treasured part of our family for nearly seven years, and this is not a choice we have taken lightly. Our circumstances have changed since having two young children, a toddler and a newborn, and we can no longer give Ralph the time, exercise, and attention that a dog of his energy and size truly deserves. He deserves a home where he can be the center of attention again, and that is the only reason we are doing this.
Ralph is a big, handsome boy with an enormous amount of love to give. He is incredibly affectionate, loyal, and bonds closely with his people. He is fully house-trained, has the full run of our home, and has never has accidents. He settles happily when left alone and is no trouble indoors at all.
He is a clever dog too. He is very responsive, knows a range of commands and tricks, and loves to learn and please. Train him with a bit of fuss and a ball and he is in heaven.
Where Ralph really comes alive is outdoors. He loves running in open fields, splashing in rivers, and above all chasing a ball. His ideal new owner is someone active who can give him one to two good walks a day with plenty of off-lead running. He has so much energy and joy to give, and he thrives when he can properly stretch his legs.
The important details:
- Golden Retriever, will be 7 years old in January 2027
- Microchipped
- Up to date on vaccinations, flea and worm treatment
- Fully house-trained, calm and clean in the home
- No health issues at all, no ongoing costs beyond food
- Not neutered
- Great with his dog walker and relaxed around other dogs on those walks; can be a little protective of us on family walks, so an experienced owner who - understands this is ideal
As mentioned there, at times since we've had children we've noticed Ralph has become more protective when out on walks. When we walk as a family, he has become more reactive when encountering other dogs. He walks with the dogwalker once a week who sees the complete opposite of this, she says that he completely ignores other dogs and isn't bothered at all.
This is worth considering, as he needs to be with someone that can cater for this and help him hopefully overcome this anxiety.
The home we are looking for:
We need to be certain Ralph goes to the right place, as his happiness and wellbeing come first. The ideal home is an active family or individual who can give him the exercise, companionship, and love he deserves. Somewhere with access to fields or open space would be perfect for him, as that is what he is used to.
If you think you can offer Ralph the wonderful, active life he deserves, we would love to hear from you. Please tell us about your home, your experience with dogs, and your daily routine so we can be sure it is the right fit for him. Thank you for reading Ralph’s story.
