Description

It is with heaviest of hearts that we need to rehome our lovely sausage dog, Frankie. He is such a cuddly and playful boy who would be perfect for a calm home with no, or older children who understand boundaries. He has a few behavioural issues which mean he no longer is as happy as he deserves to be, in our home. We have 2 young children and a toddler who can be noisy and unpredictable. Frankie missed out on a lot of early socialising as our vets vaccinations weren’t compatible with the breeders first lot of vaccinations their vet carried out, so he had to wait a further month for a third dose before he could go out on walks. Obviously this means he missed the crucial time where he’d develop social skills with other dogs and people. Through no fault of his own, Frankie enjoys a walk, but will aggressively bark at other dogs and people. When people he isn’t familiar with come to our house, he barks the same so has to be separated for his own comfort along with the safety people who come round. Frankie has bitten his owner twice, small bites through guarding something he had in his mouth which was being removed for his safety. He surrendered and showed his belly immediately and knew he did wrong. But… Frankie is a lovely, cuddly dog who needs more time and a calm environment with owners who will love him for the beautiful, loving dog he is, once he trusts you. With having small children, we feel our environment is not the right place for Frankie to thrive and he needs owners who will work with him, support and have patience with him. He adores cuddles. He’ll cuddle you all day if you let him! When you sit on the sofa he’ll squeeze himself into the smallest gaps and loves lying on his back and falling asleep. He is crate trained and finds it comforting. He is house trained and has been for a long time now. He will come with his food bowl, tray, crate, crate cover and a doggy carpet for his crate which he loves. He’s not fussy with food, he loves his toys, in particular the rubber ducks from pets at home. We have two he will bring with him. We’ve explored many options to try to keep him here, as we have fallen completely in love with him as I’m sure you will to, through the negative points listed above, his love for you when he trusts you and feels comfortable, will outweigh them, providing you have a calm home and have the time to work with him to support him. Something to take away would be in the chaos that having small children brings to Frankie, he is calm most of the time with them and lets them cuddle him and stroke him all day. I don’t know what his future in terms of dog walking looks like, but unfortunately we can’t commit to professional training which is likely what he’d need to get him used to other dogs. He really is a beautiful boy. He’s used to being in his crate when we’re at work for 8 hours a day, 3/4 days a week. When meeting him, he would be in his crate to allow him the chance to feel safe and calm before attempting contact.

Not the best choice for first time owners because Dachshunds often have a mind of their own
Care must be taken with puppies because they must not be allowed to jump up or down from anywhere because it could damage their backs and joints
