Description

Extremely difficult decision but we have decided to rehome our newfie Wilf. Wilf turned 3 in January and has been with us since 8 weeks old. Pros: Great with children and all people Great with other dogs. Great with cats although id do a slow introduction for new cats. Neutered. Walks really well on the lead. Travels well in the car. Good basic training, doesn't jump up, waits for his dinner etc. Healthy weight, fit and active Groomers love him. Cons: Gets the odd hot spot (usually seasonal, that we treat with a bit of Disinfectant). High chase drive for deer, rabbits, squirrels etc which makes recall unreliable. However he's happy to plod along on his lead and enjoys sitting at the pub or outside the school. Will still chew the odd item. This dog is a 10/10 for the right family. Our reasons for rehoming are purely down to safety as we cannot stop Wilf escaping our plot of land to chase the deer. No expense has been spared trying to resolve the issue but we have decided Wilf would just be better off with a family who have a normal garden with normal panelled fences where deer arent along the fence line all day long. We fear Wilf is one escape away from being hit by a car which we are no longer willing to risk. I can explain this better over a telephone call. Only 5* homes will be considered with priority to those who have experience with large double coated breeds. Newfoundlands are a lifestyle choice and extensive research is a must Wilf was neutered last year. He has had puppy jabs but we dont Vaccinate after that through personal choice. Wilf is a big dog but not huge for the breed, about 50kg, very handsome with a great face. Wilf has always lived with another dog, a home with a calm role model dog friend would be preferred but if you work from then he'd be fine on his own as well. No KC papers.
