This is Hercules, our Silver Dapple & Tan Miniature Smooth Dachshund. He’s a stunning looker and a beautiful example of the breed and colour. He is the youngest of our dogs at 5 years old, but due to me recently having been diagnosed with an illness that is likely to require a lot of treatment and surgery, we feel that he deserves a home where he is the only dog and can have the attention he needs. Sadly, we lost his companion last year somewhat unexpectedly which has left him on his own more than we would have wanted. He’s confident and lovable but also very active - particularly enjoys agility in the garden. He’s hereditary PRA-Clear. KC Registered but has not been castrated. Condition of sale with KC papers is that he must be castrated and not used for breeding - this is reflected in the price. Will not sell without papers so buying him to breed from as non-KC litters is not an option - he’s sired 3 litters and this is more than enough for him. Microchipped and had his full first set of vaccinations but we don’t believe in annual boosters - personal choice that has always worked for us. Flea and worm treatment up to date. He’s been socialised with budgies and cats and has grown up in a household with other dogs but they are much older and don’t appreciate his energy. He would benefit from someone who either has previous experience with Dachshunds or knows a lot about the breed. As with all Dachshunds he’s got his quirks - he’s brilliant at fetch but doesn’t quite grasp the idea of dropping his ball! He’s brilliant at recall when it suits him but will also choose to ignore his name when it suits - without more intensive recall training I wouldn’t personally let him off lead in a public place. These are all things that will come with more practice! He has been crate trained since he was a puppy and sleeps in his crate at night for a good 8 hours - he will happily tell you once he’s woken up and ready to go out! I’ve no doubt that once castrated he’d happily share the bed with you at night. He’s fed on a dry food that we order from a local feed store and we will provide enough of this for you to transition him onto whatever you want to feed him or provide details of where you can order it from. This isn’t about making money from selling him - we are charging purely to make sure that it’s genuine homes only that make enquiries - it needs to be a 5* forever home. Any potential new owners will be vetted to ensure a suitable match. He must not ever be rehomed - if for any reason it doesn’t work out he must come back to us. Have never rehomed an adult dog before so this is an incredibly difficult and emotional decision but ultimately it’s about what’s right for him and not for us. Happy to provide as much additional information as anyone requires but anyone interested must come and meet him at least once and ideally twice to make sure it’s the right match.
