IMPORTANT — READ BEFORE ENQUIRING
DO NOT CALL UNLESS INVITED TO DO SO. WE WILL NOT DISCUSS AVAILABILITY OR POTENTIAL OWNERSHIP UNLESS WE HAVE BEEN PROVIDED WITH RELEVANT DETAILS BY EMAIL AND HAVE RESPONDED INVITING FURTHER DISCUSSION.
Do not call to “check availability”. Availability is dependent on suitability.
In the first instance, please contact us by email, providing a detailed overview of your circumstances, your dog experience, and your expectations. We may then contact you for an initial phone conversation. Potentially suitable prospective owners will subsequently be invited to visit and meet us, Basil, his parents, and his extended canine family.
Basil is an 18-month-old male Border Collie, born and lovingly reared in our home. We retained him to monitor his development and ensure there was no progression of his heart murmur as he matured. He is a seventh-generation Mastamariner, bred for kindness and outstanding temperament.
Basil was carefully bred and raised at MASTAMARINER Border Collies, where temperament is always our first priority. He is descended from outstanding parents. His mother is gentle, kind, biddable, affectionate, and people-oriented; his father is a magnificent dog, exceptionally loving, willing, and compliant. These traits are clearly reflected in Basil’s own character.
Basil has been working within our organisation as the canine training partner of one of our trainee Dog Trainers. Having completed her contract with us, and with Basil’s health remaining stable as he has matured, he is now ready for his permanent, very special home.
Basil is lively, loving, loyal, playful, highly intelligent, and deeply people-oriented. He loves learning and is super-eager to please. He is biddable, responsive, and well advanced in training—with excellent recall, good lead manners, and no issue with traffic. Clean and well-behaved indoors, he is crate-trained, settles quietly when required, takes treats gently, and shows no guarding behaviours.
Raised in a rural setting and socialised with adults, children, and other dogs, his new owners must continue broadening his horizons. He enjoys the company of other dogs and can live as an only dog or with a companion. Basil does not enjoy car travel; while not carsick, he becomes upset and vocal, so his new owners will need to build his vehicle confidence with patience.
MEDICAL & PHYSICAL INFORMATION — PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
Prospective owners must fully understand Basil’s health profile before applying:
Heart Murmur: We retained Basil to observe his development and confirm there was no progression of his heart murmur as he grew. While his murmur remains significant, he is in robust health, fit, well, lively, and shows no signs of fatigue after exercise. However, this condition may (or may not) result in a shortened lifespan.
Anaesthesia Constraint: Due to his heart murmur, general anaesthesia is unlikely to be an option for Basil.
Other Physical Conditions: He has an undescended testicle, an undershot jaw, and a non-protruding hernia that causes him no issues.
Back History: When he was younger, Basil developed a sore back which resolved following a course of Loxicom and which has not recurred. No cause was identified.
Future Medical Needs: Any future medical needs associated with his condition are most likely to appear in middle age or beyond—but as with any living soul, nothing can be ruled out.
Insurance Notice: Due to his pre-existing heart murmur, standard veterinary insurance will not cover his known conditions.
Basil’s new family will genuinely enjoy canine companionship, providing affection, suitable exercise, mental stimulation, and ongoing training. He requires a stable, consistent home with full inclusion as a family member.
While Basil has underlying health issues, he is unaware of them and must not be treated as an invalid. He needs a normal Border Collie life with owners who will not unnecessarily curtail his enjoyment while keeping a watchful eye on his wellbeing.
We are seeking experienced owners familiar with intelligent working breeds who have the knowledge and home circumstances to meet his needs and take a proactive role in his continuing education. All our dogs live indoors as family; Basil will not be homed to be kennelled or isolated.
Basil is fully vaccinated, microchipped, and regularly wormed. His parents are fully health-tested with clear results. He is strictly homed as a companion/family member. Our sale agreement prohibits breeding and export, and owners must undertake to return him to us if circumstances ever change.
We are experienced, licensed breeders, qualified Dog Trainers (BIPDT), and canine behavioural professionals. We care passionately for our dogs at every age, offering unlimited, ongoing after-homing support and advice. Over 90% of our puppies are homed with existing or past Mastamariner owners. Our dogs and longstanding owner reports across the UK are our best references.
Prospective owners should read the full conditions of homing on our website before enquiring.
