Description
I have a small number of Eurasian harvest mice available, surplus to my established colony. These are captive bred and raised in a spacious, naturalistic setup and are only available to suitable homes.
They are currently housed in a 90 x 45 x 60 cm Exo Terra glass enclosure with deep substrate, climbing structures and multiple nesting areas. Harvest mice are an arboreal species (they naturally live in tall grasses and reeds), so they require a secure, tall enclosure with excellent ventilation and absolutely no gaps — they are extremely small and can escape through surprisingly tiny spaces.
Care Requirements:
• Tall enclosure with plenty of vertical climbing opportunities
• Multiple nesting areas (they build woven grass nests)
• Deep substrate and enrichment
• A large running wheel (minimum 8 inches, same as fancy mice) to prevent spinal curvature
• Secure lid and escape-proof design
Diet:
They thrive on a high-quality bird seed mix supplemented with:
• Dried and live mealworms
• Small live insects
• Fresh greens and occasional vegetables
• Access to fresh water at all times
Harvest mice are much smaller than fancy mice and are more of an observational species. While they can become accustomed to gentle interaction, they are naturally quick and delicate, so they are best suited to experienced owners rather than young children. However my colony will still take food from your hand, but they are not suitable as pet you can handle frequently due to the nature of them being so quick.
