Description

Unfortunately due to no fault of her own, I am needing to rehome my Belgian Malinois. After years of researching the breed and handling other people’s, speaking with other owners, etc, I really thought I could handle her breed, but unfortunately due to my mental health condition, I am simply not stable enough to be consistent with her. Please do not misunderstand the nature of this advert, I am not one of those owners who bought a Malinois on a whim without thought and understanding of the breed, this is not the case at all. I did all of the necessary steps before having my own. This is not a decision I have made lightly, but I would rather do this sooner rather than later so she has the best chance of success without learning too many undesirable habits. I originally bought her to do the NASDU courses and become a security K9 team. About her: She is simply brilliant, everything you want from a Belgian Malinois, great example of her breed. High drive, biddable, eager to learn, strong protective instincts, learns quickly, very intelligent. She has an amazing work drive and loves to be out and about. Saying that, she does have a very good off switch which I worked hard on and will settle beautifully at a cafe for long periods of time without fussing. She is high energy but will happily settle down with you. There are a few things we have struggled with, but none of this is unfixable and is all due to frustration and lack of impulse control. One of which is barking at other dogs, frustration based reactivity. The other is barking at strangers when they enter the home, again I strongly feel this is frustration based along with her being a guarding breed. Both of these issues are very fixable with appropriate outlets and exercise. She will need someone who is experienced with working breeds, preferably her breed and will not be going to just anyone. All I’m interested in is her going to a good forever home where she will either have a working life or a very active home who will give her the training and mental stimulation that she needs.
