💔 Forever Home Needed for Our Beautiful Border Collie, Skye 💔
This is by far the hardest post we've ever had to write.
Skye is a beautiful Border Collie who has been a huge part of our family for the last 5 years. She is incredibly loving, affectionate and devoted to her humans, and when it comes to people she really is the sweetest dog.
Skye was hand-reared as a puppy, and she's always had a very special bond with people.
Unfortunately, Skye has always struggled with anxiety, particularly around loud or sudden noises and other dogs. We've worked incredibly hard with her over the years and, through positive reinforcement and training, we managed to overcome some of her more difficult behaviours.
She used to become very worked up by loud noises and could snap when extremely anxious, but with a lot of patience and training we were able to stop this behaviour.
Her anxiety around other dogs, however, remains.
Interestingly, Skye isn't an aggressive dog looking for trouble. Quite the opposite — she is often very cautious and will actively avoid other dogs. For example, if we're walking through the woods and another dog appears on the path, Skye will often choose to leave the path or avoid the situation completely.
Unfortunately, when she does become extremely anxious, she can redirect that anxiety onto our other dog, and this has become increasingly difficult for us to manage.
Our home environment has also changed significantly. With a young child and another baby on the way, there is naturally a lot more noise, movement and general chaos around the house. We've sadly reached the heartbreaking realisation that this environment is making Skye's anxiety worse rather than better.
This is not a decision we've taken lightly.
We absolutely adore Skye, but we believe she deserves a home where she can have the time, peace and attention she needs to feel safe and relaxed.
🏡 The home we're looking for
We are looking for a very specific home for Skye:
❤️ No children
🐕 No other dogs
🌳 Someone who has plenty of time and patience for her
🏡 A calm, quiet home environment
🐾 Ideally someone who understands Border Collies and anxious dogs
Skye needs someone who will allow her to settle in at her own pace and continue the positive reinforcement and training that has helped her so much.
In the right environment, she is an incredibly loving and loyal companion.
This isn't about finding her any home — it's about finding the right home for Skye.
We would rather take our time and find someone who genuinely understands her needs than rush into the wrong situation.
We will be completely honest with anyone interested about her behaviour, anxiety and history because finding the right match is far more important to us than anything else.
