MARLEY – LOOKING FOR HIS FOREVER HOME This is probably one of the hardest posts we’ve ever had to write, and one we’ve gone backwards and forwards over more times than I can count… Meet Marley, our beautiful Cane Corso boy, who turned 2 in July. Firstly, I want to make it absolutely clear that Marley isn’t a dog who’s been neglected, unwanted or unloved. Quite the opposite. He’s been brought up in a home full of love, surrounded by family, children and his big four-legged companion. He’s very much part of our family, which makes this decision absolutely heartbreaking. Marley is loyal to the core! He’s loving, affectionate, obedient, loves his walks and absolutely adores his family. He’s grown up around our children, whom he loves dearly, and those who know him know just how much love this big boy has to give. But Marley is also a Cane Corso, and with that comes a very strong protective instinct. He takes his job of protecting his family extremely seriously. If Marley doesn’t like someone or feels uncomfortable with a situation, he certainly makes his feelings known. Unfortunately, we’ve experienced some situations where his protectiveness has become too much, and there have been a few near misses that have made us realise we need to make a difficult but responsible decision. With my husband’s job now involving him spending a considerable amount of time working away, I’m finding it increasingly difficult to manage Marley alongside the children and everyday family life. When visitors come to our home who Marley doesn’t know, I have to put him safely away in his crate. And whilst this keeps everyone safe, it’s not the life I want for him, nor is it fair for any of us to constantly be worrying about what might happen. Marley deserves more than that. He deserves a life where his needs can be fully understood and met. We genuinely believe Marley would thrive with an experienced Cane Corso or large guardian-breed owner, ideally a single person or couple with a quieter home, plenty of time, patience and the confidence to manage his protective nature appropriately. Someone who understands that loyalty and protectiveness can be wonderful qualities, but also understands the responsibility that comes with them. Now, please understand something… Marley will NOT be going to just anyone. We aren’t desperate to get rid of him. We aren’t looking for the first person who offers to take him. And we certainly won’t be handing him over to a stranger and waving goodbye. Marley is incredibly attached to us, and because of his protective nature, any potential new owner will need to be prepared to take things slowly. There will need to be introductions, time spent getting to know one another, and a carefully managed transition so that Marley can build trust and familiarity with his new family. His safety, their safety and his happiness will always come first. We will be thoroughly vetting anyone interested, and we would much rather wait for the right home than rush him into the wrong one. This isn’t about Marley being a bad dog. He’s not. He’s a much-loved dog with a big personality, an even bigger heart and protective instincts that need the right environment, experience and management. Sometimes loving an animal means admitting that, however much you adore them, your circumstances can no longer give them everything they need. And that is an incredibly difficult thing to accept. 💔 We love Marley dearly, and this decision hasn’t been made overnight. But we have to do what’s right for him and for our family. If you genuinely believe you could offer Marley the right home, please send us a private message with some information about yourself, your home environment and your experience with large protective breeds. Please, no judgement. This is already heartbreaking enough. Our only wish is to find Marley a home where he can be loved just as much as he is here, but with the time, understanding and environment he needs to truly thrive
