Description
About Chai:
Chai (like the tea) is the sweetest, most affectionate and playful 3 year old Maltipoo. It’s difficult not to be happy around him. He loves playing, fetch (fetch, fetch and more fetch), loves walks more than anything, and once he finds his companion will never leave their side. Honestly, he is the most loving dog ever. He has been cared for so much since we got him at 8 weeks, and having him in the family has been really special these last 3 years.
He is unneutered, microchipped, fully vaccinated and been up to date on flea and worming treatment since a pup. He is very well behaved at home and fully house-trained (only goes to the toilet outside and has never been destructive). We’ve taken really good care of him (our first baby!).
Reason for Rehoming:
It is honestly heartbreaking that we are even putting this listing up. My partner and I have recently accepted new jobs which means that we need to be in the office far more than we had been before, and Chai is a dog that needs lots of attention and affection which we don’t feel we will be able to give to him any more. He thrives with someone in the house and gets really upset when left alone. We decided it is best if we can find a loving family and home that can meet all of his needs and give him just as much love as we have since we got him. He’s still just a baby!
Behavior & Needs:
Like I mentioned, Chai struggles with being left alone which we believe is due to separation anxiety from people. He is only comfortable at home when somebody is there with him. It is probably because he hasn’t spent much time alone since we got him (there always tends to be somebody home), so may be something that can be worked on but please be patient with him! I guess it comes with how loving and affectionate he is.
He is quite a timid/wary dog around strangers and takes a little bit of time to warm up to them (normally just takes feeding him some treats and throwing his ball for him), but once he does he will never forget you or want you to leave (he loves when everyone is in the same room so he can keep an eye on everyone)!
He does tug on the lead during walks but he is a small dog so it has never caused any problems!
Regarding children, he has never had experience with them and I have noticed he gets quite startled by them during walks.
Regarding other dogs, he is not very friendly (tends to growl from close up) with other dogs that he does not know, especially bigger dogs. He has stayed with another dog the same size as him or smaller before, but he might need a bit of time to get used to them too, but ideally he should be the only pet in the house. Definitely a dog that needs his space from other animals (he likes his peace).
Regarding cats, he has always been super curious about them but they’ve never seemed too fond of him, so again unsure.
Ideal Home:
The ideal home for him would be a couple/family that typically has somebody at home most of the day, will be very willing to meet his needs/anxiety. Please only enquire if you know you will give him the love and attention he deserves, as it is honestly devastating that we even have to consider giving him away, so want to put as much effort as possible to find him a family that will really care for him.
Rehoming Fee & Belongings:
We are only asking for a rehoming fee to make sure he goes to a serious, financially secure home that can provide for him and spoil him like we do! Will provide everything he needs to help him settle (dog bed, lead, harness, toys, food, vet/health records)
Happy to drive him anywhere to bring him to you.
Please message with a brief intro about your living setup, daily routine, and work schedule. We may ask some further questions just to make sure he goes to the right home. As you can imagine, finding the right home is more important than finding one quickly.
