Description
Young adults of the Black Fire Millipede, Centrobolus fulgidus.
Individuals are between 18 months and two year’s old, and are approximately 2.5-3” long. They’re very easy-going and are frequently active at the surface during the day, especially following additions to the tank like fresh leaf litter or new branches. A good display millipede!
The species is simple to keep and breed and thrives in fairly typical millipede conditions: humidity ~60-70%RH, but with temperatures leaning a little cooler than most (22-24C). Watch that the environment doesn’t become overly wet - if you see millipedes curled up well above the surface for more than a few hours at a time, this is a sign they need more ventilation or a slightly drier substrate. If they’re simply wandering and nibbling at the decor, this is completely normal and not a sign of discomfort.
The substrate should be composed of topsoil enriched with rotting leaf litter and rotten white wood. They also enjoy their cucumber, apple, yellow lichen and protein supplements in the form of fish food. As with all millipedes, these must NOT be kept on coco fibre, as this leads to impaction and death in the long-run. Make sure they’re given lots of vertical surfaces to explore; they love to climb!
All are captive bred from my own breeding colony.
