Description

Hank is a 10 month old miniature dachshund/jack russell terrier. His colouring is chocolate dapple, and he is wire haired. He is a lovely dog, very loving and affectionate, but I have been having some issues with him. I didn’t buy Hank until he was 4 months old, and at that point he had been raised on patio, no grass at all so he has always been very hard to toilet train. He will urinate outside no problem, but has to be taken out every 2 hours, if not less, to prevent peeing inside. He sometimes poops outside, but mostly poops inside, as he just doesn’t go when he is out urinating. I have been trying for months and months, and don’t seem to be making any progress. He is also proving difficult to teach commands to, as he is just so jumpy and boisterous. I fell pregnant a month after I got Hank, unexpectedly, and I am now pretty close to giving birth, and I am finding it extremely difficult still caring for him and trying to train him. I also have a 2 year old and a very recent relationship breakdown, so I am now on my own, and struggling to juggle everything. My garden isn’t connected to my home, so I’m having to go outside every 1-2 hours to take him outside, which is proving increasingly difficult when I am at home alone with a 2 year old, and soon a newborn. I know I won’t be able to take him out regularly when the baby is here, so he would probably end up never being toilet trained. My circumstances have greatly changed since I got Hank, and it is no longer feasible to keep him. Especially because I’m on a time limit with giving birth soon, I don’t have the time or resources to get him professional training right now, and I wouldn’t have gotten a puppy if i had known I would fall pregnant a month later! I am just overwhelmed and Hank is starting to feel like a burden more than a blessing. I want him to be in a home where there is plenty of time for him, where someone has the time to train him, take him out regularly, and is willing to invest in a professional trainer for him. So his new home will need to be someone that can do all of that, and is going to be a better fit than we are. We really love him, so this isn’t an easy decision at all, he is a beautiful dog and I know in the right home, he can thrive. I just don’t think that’s with me. He lives with cats and is ok with them, but he does chase them a lot. His prey instinct is quite strong. He never harms them, he just chases and plays with them. Would need to be a confident cat/cats if his new owner were to have them. Please only enquire if you have the time, patience, and resources for a dog like Hank. He needs a lot of work and is still young enough to learn and become a disciplined young man. I will not let him go to just anyone, and I won’t rehome him until I am 100% certain that home is going to be the right fit. Can include his crate, toys, bed and bowls for an extra £20, as I will just be selling it all after anyway.
