Description
A lovely trio of mature ocellated skinks, approximately 5 years old. One male and two females. All three are healthy, active and feeding well on a diet of appropriately dusted insects, with full-time access to UVB.
They live well together as a group, although Female 2 is definitely the boss! She occasionally gives one of the others a little nip to remind them who's in charge, but generally they coexist very well.
Female 1 has a regenerated tail from an old injury. It has healed beautifully and causes her absolutely no problems.
Ocellated skinks are fascinating, active little reptiles with plenty of personality. They love to burrow and explore, but will also happily climb over low branches, rocks and other furnishings in their enclosure.
They're not particularly suited to regular handling as they can be quite skittish and are very fast when they decide to make a run for it! They're much more enjoyable to watch and observe behaving naturally.
Chalcides ocellatus, or the ocellated skink is a species of skink found in Greece, southern Italy, Malta, Lebanon, UAE, Israel, Palestine, and parts of northern Africa.
