Description

Our beautiful girl Murphy is looking for her forever home ❤️ We are absolutely heartbroken to be writing this, but after a great deal of thought, we have made the devastating decision to find our girl, Murphy, a new home. Murphy is 2 years old (born in March) and came to us in March from a lovely family in Somerset. She was the surviving puppy from a litter their family dog had, but unfortunately, once Murphy reached adulthood, issues developed between her and her mum. They felt neither dog was truly happy, so they made the difficult decision to rehome her. Honestly, Murphy is the most wonderful girl in so many ways. She walks beautifully to heel, is crate-trained, loves her food and knows more tricks than I can count, including a brilliant “leave” command. She gets on well with cats and other dogs and is affectionate, playful, clever and loving. She has so many of the qualities you could wish for in a family dog. Unfortunately, there is one very important thing we have come to understand about Murphy: she is not comfortable around young children. We have a 9-year-old and a 2-year-old. Murphy absolutely adores our eldest and would happily shower him with kisses and cuddles all day long. We have not observed the same behaviour around children aged 7 and above, although we cannot guarantee how she would be with every child. However, around our toddler, she will growl and bare her teeth if he comes near her. She is clearly communicating that she is uncomfortable, and we have to take that seriously. Thankfully, she has never bitten him, but we are increasingly worried about the risk of this happening. For everyone's safety, Murphy stays in her crate while our toddler is awake and only really relaxes and comes out when he is asleep, even though her crate door is always open. Our little boy is very well managed around her. He knows not to go near her crate, food or toys and is taught to give her space. It breaks our hearts that, at his age, all he wants to do is stroke and love her, but Murphy simply isn't comfortable with that. We desperately wanted to make this work. We adore Murphy and have sought professional help, including having a trainer come to work with us, but unfortunately, we have not seen the improvement we had hoped for. We don't believe it is fair for Murphy to spend so much of her time separated from the family, nor is it fair to put either her or our children in a situation where they cannot all feel safe and relaxed. Please believe me when I say this decision has not been made lightly. We are absolutely gutted. Murphy is such a special girl, and we will miss her more than words can explain. This isn't because she is a bad dog; she is a wonderful dog who needs an environment better suited to her needs. We are looking for a loving, experienced home where Murphy can truly thrive. Ideally, this would be a home without young children, where she can feel safe, settled and comfortable. She may be suited to a home with older children, but this would need to be carefully assessed, as we cannot guarantee her suitability with every child. She gets on well with cats and other dogs, although any introductions would need to be managed carefully. We will be incredibly particular about who Murphy goes to because she means the absolute world to us. We are not looking to rehome her quickly; we are looking for the right home, where her needs are understood and she can be loved for the wonderful dog she is. Introductions and a home visit will be essential before any decision is made. If you feel you could offer Murphy the right home, or would like to know more about her, please send us a message. We are more than happy to arrange a phone call and answer any questions. We are also open to discussing the price, as this has purposefully been set high to avoid the wrong people. Please, no judgement. This is one of the hardest decisions we have ever had to make, and we are doing it because we love her.
