Deerhound Puppies for sale

6 Deerhound Puppies for sale

The Deerhound, also known as Scottish Deerhound, is a large, rough-coated breed that is often described as tall, graceful and very hairy. They are related to the Greyhound and originated in the north of Scotland, where they were often referred to as the "Royal Dog of Scotland" because at one point in history they were only allowed to be kept by royalty and nobility. Sadly, the breed is currently one of the UK"s native dogs on Kennel Club"s vulnerable list.

FAQs

Is the Irish Wolfhound bigger than the Scottish Deerhound?

Yes, the Irish Wolfhound is generally larger than the Scottish Deerhound. The Scottish Deerhound typically stands around 30 to 32 inches tall and weighs between 85 to 110 pounds, while the Irish Wolfhound is the largest dog breed overall, surpassing the Deerhound in both size and weight.

Do Scottish Deerhounds make good pets?

Scottish Deerhounds are excellent pets due to their gentle, calm, and affectionate nature. They are good with children and other pets, forming strong bonds with their families. Their dignified and loyal temperament makes them ideal companions for active families who can accommodate a large dog.

Can Scottish Deerhounds be left alone?

Scottish Deerhounds enjoy human companionship but have a calm and low-energy disposition indoors, which allows them to tolerate being left alone better than some high-energy breeds. However, like all dogs, they need regular interaction, exercise, and should not be left alone for prolonged periods without stimulation.

Are Scottish Deerhounds aggressive?

No, Scottish Deerhounds are not aggressive. They have a friendly, gentle, and patient temperament, get along well with children, other pets, and strangers, and do not make good watchdogs due to their amicable nature.
