The Exotic is often referred to as a short haired Persian cat because they look so similar, with the main difference being the length of the coat. They are relatively new to the cat scene, having first been developed in the USA. Nevertheless, the Exotic has gained a large following in the UK, thanks to its adorable appearance, friendly, loving, if mischievous nature, and beautiful, luxurious coat.

The most exotic domestic cat breed is often considered to be the Savannah cat, a hybrid between a domestic cat and the wild African serval, known for its large size, striking spotted coat, and wild appearance. Other exotic breeds include the Bengal, which resembles a miniature leopard, and the Egyptian Mau, the only naturally spotted domestic cat breed with ancient Egyptian origins.
