We are looking for a loving, experienced home for our beautiful dachshund. Ideally, her new owners will have knowledge of the breed and understand that dachshunds can be intelligent, sensitive, vocal, and sometimes prone to reactivity and/or separation anxiety.
preferably a home with another dachshund, she currently does not live with another dog but i think she would thrive with another dachshund to feel more comfortable especially with the intent that it may reduce her anxiety when her owners go out, she loves playing with other dachshunds!
She is a very affectionate dog who forms strong bonds with her people and loves being involved in daily life. She thrives on companionship and enjoys spending time with her family.
She has a good level of training and knows several commands, including sit, down, wait, recall (“here”), free (release command), and heel position. She is clever, eager to learn, and enjoys training sessions.
Her new home will need to be understanding of her challenges. She experiences separation anxiety and currently has a threshold of around 30 seconds when left alone before becoming distressed. This is something that will require continued training and patience. We are looking for owners who understand that separation anxiety is not improved by “crying it out” or leaving a dog to become overwhelmed, but through gradual, positive training that builds confidence and independence.
She can also be reactive to other dogs when on lead, particularly larger dogs, (the reactivity is not aggression, it’s frustration from being overwhelmed with excitement or a bit of anxiety) so she will need an owner who is comfortable managing this and continuing positive training. Off lead, she is generally much more relaxed around other dogs.
She is mostly not a fan of big dogs, with small dogs she doesn’t have as much of a issue with them! however i reckon she would get used to living with a bigger dog.
We are committed to finding the right match rather than a quick placement. She deserves a patient, knowledgeable home that will give her the time, understanding, and love she needs to thrive.
If you think you could offer her the right home, please get in touch and tell us a little about yourself, your experience with dachshunds, and any experience you have with separation anxiety or reactive dogs.
