Description
Bella is a beautiful German Shepherd who will be 6 years old in March. She is spayed and microchipped.
She has a gentle, affectionate nature and forms very strong bonds with her people. Bella is incredibly loyal and loves being close to you. She enjoys cuddles just as much as she enjoys being out exploring, and she settles calmly at home after a good walk.
In the house, Bella is well behaved and relaxed. She is currently left for up to 8 hours during the working day and has shown she is not destructive and can cope with being alone. However, this is not the lifestyle I want for her long term. She deserves more time, engagement, and companionship than my current circumstances allow, which is why this difficult decision has been made.
Bella needs around two hours of exercise per day and thrives on activity and stimulation. She loves to play and would flourish in an active home where she can enjoy regular adventures and mental engagement.
On the lead, Bella can be strong and pully, mainly due to excitement to get to her destination. With her dog walker (who takes her out twice a week), she has improved and walks much more calmly, which shows she is capable with consistency and clear handling. She will need an owner confident with larger breeds who is willing to continue her lead work.
Her recall is good around 90% of the time. I usually keep her on a long line as a precaution, particularly in distracting environments. She will generally return when called unless there is another dog or animal that captures her attention.
Bella travels okay in the car. She is happiest when a window is slightly open so she can look out; with the windows fully closed she can whine, which seems to be a mixture of excitement and mild anxiety.
She loves people but would be best suited to a calm home with no children. She is timid around other dogs and needs to be the only pet. A secure, enclosed garden is essential.
Bella must go to an experienced German Shepherd or large-breed owner who understands the breed’s intelligence, energy levels, and loyalty. It is extremely important that her next home is fully committed and prepared for what owning a shepherd involves, as I do not want her to ever be rehomed again.
If circumstances were ever to change, she must be returned to me and not passed on elsewhere.
This is a heartbreaking decision made purely out of love. I want Bella to have a fuller life — one with more time, attention, adventure, and companionship than I can currently provide. She has so much to give and will be an incredibly devoted companion in the right home.
Home checks and references may be required.
