Description
I met Eric's previous owners at the Dogs trust, they had taken him there to get rid of him as they no longer wanted him. They said the Dogs trust couldn't take him as they were full, so was going to have him put down. I've owed SBT'S for over 40 years and didn't know anything about the Goldendoodle breed, but offered to give him a home, rather than him being put to sleep. Over the last few weeks I have learnt a lot about the breed, and now know that unlike SBT'S they are a very needy dog and can't be left for long periods of time without human company. Eric like all Poodle x breeds suffers from separation anxiety. He's not destructive but does bark when he's left , he will settle eventually. He has been left for 7 hours and is clean in the house. Eric is brilliant with all humans, big or small, he's brilliant with other dogs and just wants to play with every dog he meets. He's very energetic and very bouncy, loves playing with his toys, especially the balls. He doesn't have any road sense, so needs to be kept on the lead near roads, but once out in the fields he can be let off which he loves. His recall is OK, but if he's preoccupied with something else you do need to call him a few times. I've spent quite a bit of time training him, and he knows his basic commands, sit, stay, paw, come, rollover, he'll sit when you get to a kerb to cross the road, he'll sit to let you put his lead on, he'll sit and give his paw for his food. He does travel in a car, but gets a bit anxious, he doesn't bark, but trembles and pants, he is improving though. Eric has oodles of love to give, and loves lots of attention, so needs to be in a home with a family so there's someone at home most of the time. Or someone who doesn't work full time. I wish I could give him the attention he needs, because he really is a fantastic dog.
