Description
I am writing with an extremely heavy heart to seek assistance in finding the right forever home for my 7 month old dark brown Labrador Retriever.
This has been one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make and has not been taken lightly. I have spent months trying to make things work, seeking professional advice and exhausting every option available to me before coming to this point. My only motivation in doing so is her long‑term welfare and happiness.
She has been with me and my family since 8 weeks of age and has received lots of love and affection and excellent veterinary care throughout. She is microchipped and fully up to date with all vaccinations, worming, and flea prevention.
Temperamentally, she is a genuinely affectionate and people focused dog. She is very loving, thrives on human companionship, absolute nutter when she wants to be and adores cuddles and physical closeness. She forms strong bonds and wants nothing more than to engage with her people, which makes this decision even more emotionally difficult.
I also own an 18 month old English Show type Labrador. However, in contrast, this younger dog is clearly a working type Labrador with significantly higher drive, stamina, and mental stimulation requirements. As she has matured, it has become clear that her needs go far beyond what I am realistically able to provide.
When challenges started, I proactively sought advice from professional dog trainers, as I was determined to support her properly. Following ongoing discussions and guidance, it has become clear that despite my best efforts, my current circumstances, including personal medical issues and work commitments, prevent me from giving her the level of structured exercise, advanced training, and consistent mental enrichment she needs to truly thrive.
She has a solid foundation in basic training and is highly intelligent and eager, particularly when food motivated. However, she becomes easily overstimulated and excitable, which currently presents as jumping up and nipping at hands during moments of high excitement. This is not aggression, but rather excess energy and drive without sufficient outlets. As she grows, this behaviour will require confident handling, consistency, and continued training from someone experienced with high energy working dogs.
She has been raised around children since puppyhood and shows no fear or aggression. However, due to her enthusiasm and physicality, her behaviour can be overwhelming for younger children, and a calm, structured environment would therefore be more suitable.
I firmly believe she would flourish in a home that truly understands working‑type Labradors, ideally one that can offer:
A very active lifestyle
Purposeful, daily physical exercise
Ongoing mental stimulation and structured training
Possible working or sporting outlets (e.g. gundog training, scentwork, or similar)
Clear boundaries, routine, and confidence from the handler
Making this decision now, while she is still young and adaptable, has been incredibly painful but feels the kindest option to ensure she has the opportunity to reach her full potential in an environment that meets her needs.
As you can see from the photo's she really is a beautiful, affectionate dog with enormous potential in the right hands, and my intention is to place her responsibly and ethically to the right home.
Please message if you have any questions or are interested in giving my beautiful dog, her forever home
