Description
This is one of the hardest decisions we have ever had to make, and we are absolutely heartbroken to be looking for a new home for our boy. ❤️
Jango is a beautiful 2.5 years old male. He is a huge part of our family, and this decision has not been made lightly. However, with a 7-month-old baby, and we cannot take risks related to food behaviour.
We want to be completely honest and transparent about him because he deserves the right home, where his needs are understood and where he can be happy and settled.
🐶 A little about him:
He is an energetic, goofy, funny and happy boy with a big personality. He has had a substantial amount of training with trainers, behaviourists etc and is fantastic at learning and performing tricks. He absolutely loves playing ball, tug of war, training, running around and having the zoomies! He can be very affectionate and enjoys cuddles, but he is also independent and likes his own company.
He is crate trained, fully house-trained and does not destroy the house. He is a well-trained dog who enjoys having fun, spending time with people and doing things he loves. He is great at being left alone while you nip out of the house and enjoys his own company.
❤️ His temperament and behaviour:
He is good with people and pretty good with children of all ages. He generally keeps himself to himself and enjoys his own space.
When it comes to other dogs, he can be reactive on the lead. He has been assessed by behaviourists, who have described this as lead frustration rather than aggression. Off lead, he is generally fine around other dogs, although he can be fearful of them and tends to keep to himself rather than actively socialising. He has never lived with another animal, so we cannot guarantee how he would settle with other pets.
Jango is a very loyal dog with great protective instincts. Apart from food aggression (which is a recent thing) he is a fabulous boy!
⚠️ Please read this important information carefully:
He does have food-related aggression, and this is the main reason we are having to consider rehoming him. He has bitten a dog trainer in the past in connection with this issue. We do not want to minimise or hide this information, as it is extremely important that any potential home fully understands his needs and the risks involved. He will need work and training to help with this.
With a young baby in our home, we simply cannot risk a situation developing around food. This is not a decision we ever wanted to make, and it is absolutely devastating for us.
🏡 The home we are looking for:
We want a responsible, understanding and experienced home that will take the time to get to know him and continue managing his behaviour appropriately. Someone who understands food guarding, respects a dog's boundaries and is willing to put the necessary management and safety measures in place would be essential.
We will be carefully vetting anyone interested in offering him a home. We need to feel confident that the environment, experience and commitment are right for him. This is not about finding just any home; it is about finding the right home for the rest of his life.
He has so many wonderful qualities. He is funny, clever, playful, affectionate in his own way and full of life. We love him dearly, and we want him to have the best possible future.
💔 Please understand that this decision is breaking our hearts. We have raised him from a tiny puppy, and we are not looking to rush into anything. His welfare and the safety of everyone involved are our priorities.
If you feel you could offer him the right home, please message us with some information about yourself, your experience with dogs and the environment you could provide.
Serious, genuine enquiries only, please. We will be asking questions and taking our time to make the right decision for him.
Thank you for taking the time to read ❤️
We do not want any money or funds for Jango, we just want the best for him.
