Life Portraits of Eaglesham are pleased to announce the safe arrival of eight healthy chocolate Labrador retrievers, on the morning of Saturday 20th June 2026, sired by the much sought after Ben of the Glens (his real name is Woody, given to him I believe following his disappearance into the wild for three weeks), in the verdant valleys west of Crieff where his breeders are located. Whilst Ben’s trial winning exploits are on account of his ability as a retriever, I liked the look of his active demeanour, contrasting my options of those bred for their looks alone. On the subject of looks however, you couldn’t get a finer looking animal than the mother, (to which I’m sure you’ll agree from the photographs) whose just completed her second year. I was truly amazed that Pepe’s delivery was so seemingly effortless, having read about the potential problems of presentation, then again she’s very active, strong and healthy. Now as I write this she’s got eight determined pups, avidly drawing her milk following their arrival on the planet. What a day this has been, it’s such a fantastic sight. Sunday 21st June. Perhaps the ease of delivery, which was all over in five hours, was partly due to Ben’s similar weight to Pepe’s at 28 Kilos, which is fairly light for a Labrador. That however ties in with the premise that chocolate labs are getting neater on account of more concerted breeding. Although my previous chocolate lab was heavier, she had nothing as fine as Pepe’s coat and proportion.
