Description

Finn is a 9 year old male who is a sweet and affectionate boy, we have had since he was 8 weeks old and find ourselves in an unfortunate situation. We originally had him and his sister but she was unfortunately run over in 2020. Finn was always a bit of a roamer but since his sister died, he’s become a lot worse. Over the years it’s increased and he would sometimes go missing for weeks at a time, constantly being let in by well meaning neighbours but not at all helpful for us trying to encourage him home. He’s a gorgeous and friendly boy and people often take a shine to him. At one point, he returned home with a collar and a note asking if they could adopt him! By 2024, we hadn’t seen Finn for over a year despite our best efforts to find him and, rightly or wrongly, we got a dog. Fast forward to early 2026, Finn made an unexpected but welcome return home. At first our dog wasn’t bothered, but Finn is skittish and one day ran from the dog, and the dog chased. Our dog is a Jack Russell mix and has a very strong nose, we have reprimanded the dog but now in a constant cycle of Finn coming home, poking his head through the cat flap to make a noise, then the dog barks and yaps, chases him and Finn runs off. Finn can’t be kept anywhere in the house safely as the dog has such a strong nose, he detects him almost immediately. I’m worried Finn could come in when we are out and get hurt, and we have now missed the boat entirely to socialise Finn with the dog. We are incredibly sad but for Finn’s best interests and happiness, we are seeking a new home for him. He is affectionate, house trained and a lovely cuddly cat who would very much welcome a quieter house but is fine with children. I would suggest older children however as he’s sensitive to noise and sudden movements. We live in the town and he would like to be outside as much as possible, so a garden is a must, it would be our ideal that he has a more rural setting as he just loves the freedom but he’s streetwise. He would not suit another cat but I think he could live with a dog that is entirely unbothered by cats or trained not to chase them. He’s an excellent mouse chaser if required! I think as he’s getting older, he wants to rest more and I feel the roaming will decrease. I also wonder if he has been living with another family permanently who have now moved, hence his return home. This is a sensitive and unexpected issue for our family, I would need to explain in more detail to a potential adopter but some discretion will be needed around our children. We are fiercely against rehoming established pets normally but made the decision to get a dog in good faith, thinking he was gone for good and having sought advice just don’t feel there is a workable solution here. Finn has had no health concerns ever, but is behind in his flea and worm/vaccinations as he’s only just returned to us and is erratic/unpredictable with his movements. Further discussion around this is obviously needed for the right adopter to get him up to date before he leaves us. I have listed Finn as £50 but don’t want any money for him, we just want him to have a settled home environment where he can relax and feel safe. Any questions, please ask.
