Description

Oscar is a male medium sized dog who was found as a young puppy on the streets of Romania in December 25. He was taken to our public shelter and was there until travelling to our kennels in February 26. He was described as an excitable friendly pup. He is microchipped, vaccinated and neutered with no known health issues. Oscar has only lived in kennels and will need help with toilet training and getting used to being in a home environment . Behaviour & Temperament Disclosure – Oscar General Demeanour Oscar is a nervous but gentle dog who is still building his confidence around people and new environments. When someone enters his kennel he will often retreat initially; however, if approached calmly and given space he becomes curious, approaches for a sniff, and shows friendly body language such as tail wagging. He shows no signs of malice and presents as a sweet, sensitive dog who would benefit from a patient and understanding home. Human Interaction Oscar has not shown any aggression towards people. He has never bitten or growled at a person. Due to his nervous nature, he may startle easily and can spook himself when approaching unfamiliar people, but he remains friendly and curious. Resource Guarding Oscar has shown no signs of food or resource guarding. He has shared food and toys with another dog (Toby) without issue and has remained relaxed when people are nearby while he is eating or interacting with toys. Handling & Equipment Oscar accepts a collar, harness, and lead without issue. Lead Walking Oscar is currently very nervous on the lead and will not walk far. He tends to feel overwhelmed outside the kennel environment and will often shrink back or appear panicky when exposed to unfamiliar surroundings or stimuli. Reactions to Environment & Stimuli During walks or when exposed to unfamiliar people, dogs, or general activity, Oscar may become anxious and display avoidant body language such as shrinking back or hesitating to move forward. Children Oscar has not been child tested while in kennels. Due to his nervous disposition, he would be best suited to a home with older, calm children aged 14+ who can respect his need for space and allow him time to build confidence. Dogs Oscar has lived with and been around other dogs and interacts well with them. He enjoys playing and has never growled or bitten another dog. He could live with another calm dog, and a confident resident dog may help support his confidence, although this is not essential. Cats Oscar has not been cat tested. Prey Drive No prey drive has been observed. Toileting & Kennel Behaviour Oscar does toilet in his kennel. He has not been destructive in his kennel environment. Separation & Being Left Alone Oscar has previously been left overnight without issue. He shows no signs of separation anxiety and typically settles and sleeps when left alone. Oscars carer says 'Oscar is very nervous but more confident than Toby, he will come over and have a sniff and is curious of you and wants to say hello but spooks himself. He shows no malice and is very sweet just needs that extra bit of patience. He is very good motivated and likes other dogs'.
