Description

It is with a heavy heart that I am looking to find a new home for my much-loved 4-year-old dapple Dachshund. This has not been an easy decision, but I feel he would be happier in a home better suited to his needs. He is affectionate and loves being close to his people, but he has significant separation anxiety and should not be left alone for more than around 3 hours. He can become very attached to his owner and has shown possessive behaviours. He is not suitable for a home with teenage girls, as he has displayed aggressive behaviour towards them. He is also not good around other dogs, so he would need to be the only pet. I am looking for an experienced owner who understands anxious or reactive dogs and is willing to continue working with him. He would suit a calm, adult-only home where someone is around for most of the day. Finding the right home is far more important to me than finding a quick home, and I will only consider people who can meet his needs.

Extremely affectionate and loyal little dogs

Very intelligent Dachshunds learn quickly and know how to please

Fun-loving and playful by nature

Energetic and feisty Dachshunds like to be kept entertained

Cons

Not the best choice for first time owners because Dachshunds often have a mind of their own

Care must be taken with puppies because they must not be allowed to jump up or down from anywhere because it could damage their backs and joints

They are prone to putting on too much weight if not given enough daily exercise

The breed is known to suffer from quite a few health concerns so vet bills can be high and why pet insurance is so important for anyone owning a Dachshund
